Few have posted more impressive career stats for the CSI Softball program than Kaitlyn Flynn. A four-year member of the program, Flynn ranks in the top ten in Dolphins history in nearly every major category. She also served as the foundation for what would become a culture of on-field excellence for CSI Softball throughout the decade that followed her arrival at the College of Staten Island.
Flynn’s Dolphins career began in 2009 with a season that saw her hit .350 with five home runs and 35 RBI. This earned her CUNYAC Rookie of the Year and quickly placed her among the most prolific power hitters in program history. In addition to Flynn’s individual success, the team also won the CUNYAC Championship that year and CSI won 23 games.
The following season Flynn hit .321 with five more home runs and 34 RBI to earn a CUNYAC All-Star selection, but the Dolphins would fall short in the CUNYAC Championship that year. However, the following season would see Flynn emerge as one of the most dangerous hitters in program history, and the Dolphins would return to the top of the CUNYAC.
As a junior, Flynn’s batting average surged nearly 150 points to .469 and she earned CUNYAC MVP honors for the first time in her career. She also posted some of the best single-season offensive numbers in program history with 61 hits and 49 runs scored. That same season, the Dolphins returned to the CUNYAC Championship and won the conference title for the second time during Flynn’s career.
During Flynn’s final year with the Dolphins in 2012 she put together one of the best statistical seasons in program history. She hit a career-best .500, drove in a career-high 35 runs, and set career-highs in slugging percentage and on-base percentage. She also won CUNYAC MVP for the second time and achieved several more single-season totals that rank among the best in Dolphins history.
Flynn’s career helped usher in an era of Dolphins Softball that saw the team win seven straight CUNYAC Championships from 2013-2019. She currently ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in batting average, hits, runs, RBI, and slugging percentage. She enters the Hall of Fame as the program’s all-time leader in home runs and served as a mentor for the younger players who went on to begin a seven-year run of conference supremacy for the CSI Softball program.
