COUGARS STAY UNDEFEATED IN CUNY AS THEY DEFEAT DOLPHINS, 4-2, IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

College of Staten Island women's soccer fell to the conference undefeated Medgar Evers College, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars extend their record to 4-0 in CUNY and 7-4-1 overall while the Dolphins took their first conference loss to drop to a 2-1 CUNY record and 5-3 overall.

The game looked hopeful for CSI scoring seven minutes into play on their first shot attempt of the game. Paige Buono stole the ball from the goalie on a broken play to send a short quick pass to Natalie Tombasco for the first goal of the game. At the 23 minute mark, Medgar's Kathy Salcedo took a shot that deflected off the hands of CSI goalie Danielle McLaughlin for a save before the ball would quickly find the foot of Shaker Ho-Sang who scored to tie the game. Eager to get themselves back in the lead, CSI fired four more shots before they would score with five minutes remaining in the first half. Demi-Jean Marotano brokeaway with the ball dribbling down the field where she found Tombasco to score for CSI and put the score at 2-1.

Medgar set the pace the Cougars right away scoring just five minutes into the second stanza. Salcedo took an unassisted swing where the high ball tipped off the hands of CSI's McLaughlin and into the goal to tie the score once again this time at 2-2.

Both teams had three attempts at goal each before Ho-Sang scored the go-ahead goal of off a corner kick pass from Salcedo 20 minutes into the final half. Just five minutes later, Renel Dennis stole the ball for a breakaway and quick shot past McLaughlin to finalize the score at 4-2.

The Dolphins had four attempts to catch up in the remaining twenty minutes of play but the Cougars defense wouldn't let that happen allowing just one shot on-goal.

The Cougars out-shot the Dolphins 24-18. There were just four foul goals during the 90 minutes of play.

Tombasco scored both goals for CSI to total six shots while Martorano had four shots. For the Cougars, Ho Sang has tow goals on 8 attempts.

In goal, McLaughlin tallied 11 saves while Yishka Chin had seven saves for Medgar Evers.

The Dolphins will host Yeshiva University tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm.
