The College of Staten Island men's soccer team fought valiantly, but were on the wrong end of a 2-0 final in a matinee match against SUNY-Old Westbury as part of the Drew University Fall Festival played in Madison, New Jersey. The Panthers moved to 2-1 overall this season, while the Dolphins dropped to 0-3.
The final score was kind to the Dolphins, who spent most of the game on their end of the field. Old Westbury out-shot the Dolphins 16-1 in the first half, and the out-manned Dolphins went the majority of the game without the benefits of a substitution, while a total of 19 Panthers saw time.
While a host of shots were put on CSI keeper
Ahmed El-Ghareib, the one to hit paydirt was Victor Farfan at 25:57, as he touched in a goal past El-Ghareib via a crossing pass from Anthony Echevarria.
El-Ghareib made a total of eight saves in the first half and made another four in the second stanza for a season-high 12 saves on the afternoon, but not before Christopher Barbosa doubled the Old Westbury lead at 56:18.
CSI was held scoreless for the first time this season, and were out-shot by a 27-5 margin (14-2 on goal). The Panthers also enjoyed a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Dolphins will get back to action on Wednesday, September 8, when they travel for a non-conference contest with PSU-Brandywine.
