Box Score The College of Staten Island men's soccer team saw its journey towards a CUNYAC Championship ended in semifinal play, as the No. 5 Dolphins fell to No. 1 Baruch, 3-0 at Randall's Island on Saturday evening. CSI fell to 11-10 on the season, while the Bearcasts improved to 8-5-3, and have advanced to play No. 2 Brooklyn College in the final next week.
Rookie Oren Kozlowski was the star again scoring the first goal on an assist from Akil George in the 10th minute. George sent a pass over the top of the defense to Kozlowski, who raced towards the goalkeeper for the opening score. It was George's fourth assist of the CUNYAC tournament.
Kozlowski scored his 13th goal of the season with under five minutes remaining in the first half. Victor Tlepshev sent a through ball that found Kozlowski open for a one-on-one shot opportunity past the goalkeeper for the 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Bearcat Victor Tlepshev scored a third Bearcat goal in the 78th minute to virtually seal the victory for Baruch. He brokeaway from the defense and beat the goalkeeper with a solo effort.
The win gives Baruch their second consecutive championship appearance as they fell last year to the Lehman Lightning on penalty kicks 5-4. Baruch last won a title in 2006 when they defeated John Jay 1-0.
Despite the loss, CSI has much to be proud of. After accumulating 10 wins over the last three years, CSI scored 11 wins this year, the third most in program history under first-year Head Coach
John Tardy. They will now await word on a potential ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament berth. That will be announced a week from Monday.
