CSI WOMEN SQUEEZE BY PRATT TO EXTEND WIN STREAK

Sabrina Braferton-Nasert won in Singles and Doubles this evening
The College of Staten Island women's tennis team extended their season-long win streak to seven games, just narrowly getting by Pratt Institute, 5-4, in a match held this evening at National Tennis Center in Flushing.  CSI extended to 13-1 overall with the win.

The heavily contested match started with doubles, and it was there that CSI took a very critical 2-1 edge.  The No. 1 unit of Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Ilona Stoyko teamed up to upend Sarah Cowart and Agata Jakobouhlia by an 8-5 count to give CSI one win.  The other two flights were even closer.  CSI's team of Madiha Mulla and Nozima Toshpulatova fell at No. 2, 8-6, but the Dolphins duo of Michelle Kushnir and Jacqueline Jamaleddine answered the call with an 8-6 win at No. 3, giving CSI the 2-1 edge.

All of the singles flights were decided in straight sets.  All CSI needed was a split and that's all they would muster.  Bragerton-Nasert continued her hot play at No. 2, edging out Rache Caines, 6-2, 6-3.  At the third spot, Mulla delivered with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, win, while Toshpulatova scored an easier 6-2, 6-1, win in her flight.

CSI now will have a good lay-off before starting the 2013 CUNYAC Postseason Championship this weekend.  Top-seeded CSI will host No. 8 York College in quarterfinal play on Sunday, October 20, at 12 Noon at the CSI Tennis Center.  The winner moves on to the CUNYAC Semifinals two days later at National Tennis Center.
