STATEN ISLAND, NY – The victories keep adding up for the College of Staten Island women's swimming & diving team as the Dolphins hosted conference foe John Jay College in their season home opener, beating the Bloodhounds with a score of 135-64, Friday.

The evening was full of season-breaking times, as Staten Island took the top spot in nine of the meet's 11 events and set season-best times in six of them.

Adrianne Vivas was the first CSI swimmer of the evening to post a first place finish in an individual event. Vivas took the 200 freestyle in convincing fashion, posting a time of 2:13.80, finishing 12 seconds ahead of teammate
Dakota Dawkins (2:25.23).Â

Immediately following,
Karen Ragnanan outstretched teammate
Kelly Walsh and
Naomi Gaggi for the victory in the 50 freestyle. Ragnanan posted a time of 29.62, while Walsh clocked in at 29.75 and Gaggi at 29.90. Gaggi held the previous season-best with a time of 30.81.
The record-breaking continued into the 200 individual medley as
Jessica Pifalo led the event with a time 2:41.37, smashing the previous season-best time of 2:51.10 set by
Elaina Lei. However, Lei finished second breaking her previous season-best with a time of 2:48.29.
With the 100 free, Vivas swam her way into first with a season-breaking time of 1:03.28, while Gaggi registered a season-best in the event with a time of 1:05.90. Following was the 100 backstroke, where Pifalo took the event with a time of 1:14.30, just six-hundredths of a second faster than her time on Oct. 29 (1:14.36).
In the final individual event of the evening, D. Dawkins placed four seconds ahead of the competition, taking the event with a time of 1:15.89. Her previous best of the season was 1:16.91.
Other events in which the Dolphins placed first include the 200 medley relay (2:10.83), the 100 butterfly (
Tina Chen – 1:21.13) and the 200 freestyle relay (2:01.87).
The CSI men's and women's swimming & diving team both return to the water on Wed., Nov. 6 at 6 p.m., when the Dolphins host conference foe Baruch College.
