Box Score STATEN ISLAND - There was no stopping the College of Staten Island men's soccer team this afternoon as they proved to be too much for Maritime College as the Dolphin's overpowered the Privateers 5-0 at the CSI Soccer Complex, Friday.
While CSI's young team may have struggled in its first two games of the season, it proved to be a force to be reckoned with in today's matchup. Just one minute and ten seconds in to the game, freshman
Nicholas Bacarella connected on a pass from
Alfonso Castaneda to score the first goal of his collegiate career to give the Dolphins an early lead.
CSI's offensive attack shined throughout the first half of play, especially from junior
Thomas Vazquez who registered two assists and scored a goal of his own on the day. The first assist came 31:10 minutes into the game on a cross that connected with teammate
Horatio Reid to put the Dolphins up 2-0. Just six minutes later Vazquez put a shot past Maritime goalkeeper on a pass from Castaneda, pushing the score to 3-0.
With just 42 seconds left to play in the first half, Bacarella battled through a group of Privateer defenders and managed to sneak a shot past the goalkeeper on an assist from
Christian Chirinos. The Dolphins entered the half with a 4-0 lead, marking the most points scored this season.
The final goal of the day was scored at the 60:49 mark by freshman
Marcin Klim who connected on a pass from Vazquez. This marked Klim's second goal of the season as he scored the lone goal in CSI's game against NJCU.
CSI's five goals scored were the most the Dolphins have tallied since Sept. 19, 2012 when they beat York 5-0 at the CSI Soccer Complex.
The men's team takes to the pitch tomorrow night against NYU at Gaelic Park at 7 p.m.
