All-Time Series: CSI leads 41-15
Last Meeting: Jan 27, 2016 – CSI won 72-39
Players To Watch (CSI):
Samantha Flecker continues to lead the unit in 2016-17 with a per game points average of 16.5 while tossing up 6.8 rebounds per contest as well. Flecker is also 76% from the free-throw line in her career, so look for her to want to build on that tonight as well.
Angelique Price is next in line in scoring with a 14.3 average. Price is shooting a team-best 46% from the field this season and is knotted for the team league with six three-pointers.
Christina Pasaturo is looking to make history tonight, needing just five points to hit 1,000 in her career. She will become on the 19th player in CSI history to achieve the mark.
Players To Watch (JJC): The Bloodhounds are only averaging 46.3 points per game as a team, and a lion's share of that belongs to Cassandra Taylor, who is averaging 15 points per game while also leading the team in rebounds per game with 7.0 and total steals with five. The Bloodhounds have three players all averaging 7.0 points per game in Karen Rosario, Shaliyah Ruiz and Uju Nwaigwe. Dana Nicholson is a strong back court presence who shares the team lead with a trio of three-pointers and eight total assists.
News & Notes: CSI has had its way in the series of late, having won the last eight games since 2013 and 12 of the last 14 dating back to 2008. The Dolphins have been even better at home, boasting an all-time 21-4 record over the Bloodhounds on their home floor, winning the last 14 meetings dating all the way back to 1995. Last year, CSI won both meetings by an average of 34 points. So far in the young season, the teams have shared one common opponent in St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). The Bloodhounds fell to SJC, 65-58, while the Dolphins were able to coast over a short-handed Bears team 77-60 last week. Dating back to last year, JJC is on a six-game losing skid. Team defense has been the name of the game for CSI so far this season and last season. The Dolphins are 13-1 (.929) when they have been able to keep opponents to under 35% shooting from the floor, 7-10 when they do not. Meanwhile that has been the heel for JJC thus far, as the team is shooting just 30.2% from the floor this season. They are also averaging 24.8 turnovers per contest and that will fuel CSI as they are forcing 24.3 per game and are a +9.3 in the takeaway column. While Pasaturo needs just five markers for 1,000 tonight, she is also climbing up other lists as well. She needs 13 more assists to hit 8th all-time at the college, and needs 13 more three-pointers to tie Hall of Famer Tara Gagliardo for 5th all-time.
