JACKSON 7TH AT QUEENSBOROUGH INVITATIONAL

9/17/2017 4:35:00 PM

The College of Staten Island men's and women's cross-country teams got on track this week, and although roster numbers are small, the units did indeed place this morning at the Queensborough Community College Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.  While the women's results are still pending, the CSi men placed 18th overall in a field of 25 teams, and the star of the show was Luke Jackson, who placed 7th overall in a field of 159 scoring runners.  The CSI women placed 20 of 27 teams in the field in the meet's 5k race, sixth among CUNYAC schools.

CSI had five men cross on the day, and it was a solid race considering the team has only recently got off of the ground and expects to pick up its times as the weeks roll be.  Jackson placed seventh overall, but he was first among all CUNYACF four-year college runners, a significant feat considering the conditions.  Jackson secured a time of 29:11.1 in the 8k, a full minute ahead of teammate Liam McMunn, who rolled in with a quality time of 30:29.3, good for 24th overall.

Trevin Robinson was next in for CSI at 38:40.7, in 162nd overall (125th among scorers), and sophomore Justin Fernendez came in next at 43:40.3, placing him 199th (144th).  Last but not least, Tony Aye, making his collegiate debut, topped out at 61:51.3 for 225th (157th).

The CSI women were paced by sophomore Tristiana Adragna, who had the best race of her career, posting a time of 24:17.7 good for 50th overall and 45th among scoring runners.  Veronica Lorenzo was next in at 26:28.3, good for 89th, and Kwan Ho followed at 31:55.8.  Jessica Lin, in her collegiate race, topped in at 32:14.9, good for 175th.
