The College of Staten Island women's tennis team will be looking to stay undefeated on the young season this afternoon, this time when they get underway in CUNYAC play as well as they travel to face John Jay College at 4pm. The match will be played at the familiar National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, home of the CUNYAC Championship later in October. The Bloodhounds, the defending CUNYAC champs, will be looking to stay undefeated in conference play, and will look to extend their win streak to three.
CSI vs JOHN JAY COLLEGE
Matchup: CSI (1-0, 0-0 CUNYAC) vs. John Jay (3-1, 1-0 CUNYAC)
Where: National Tennis Center - Flushing Meadow-Corona Park, Flushing, NY
All-Time Series: CSI leads 16-7
Last Meeting: October 27, 2018, JJC won 5-4
Players to Watch (CSI): It's been a modest start for the Dolphins, who had their first three matches suspended, but since the Dolphins got a great start from junior
Hannah Bruschi, who was a double-winner in the win over St. Joseph's (BK). The same is true for
Guetanie Romain, who was a 6-0, 6-0. winner at No. 5 and also in the No. 2 Doubles position, teaming with
Tristiana Adragna, who lost a razor-thin match at No. 1 last weekend.
Players to Watch (JJC): The Bloodhounds are being led in singles by the play of Angelica Lozano, who is 3-1 overall at the Nos. 3-4 positions. Both Cristina Peralta and Mariana Rodriguez are 2-1 in singles with Rodriguez at the top of the lineup and Peralta near the bottom. Lozano, Kellie Murtha and Briana Schmidt are all 3-1 in doubles play, and that has been the strength of the Bloodhounds team as they are 8-4 overall in Doubles matches.
News & Notes: The rivalry between the Dolphins and Bloodhounds is a strong one, and CSI has won 16 of the 23 previous meetings. That record includes a CSI streak of 10 wins in a row that was ended last year in a 5-4 John Jay victory over CSI in the CUNYAC Semifinal round of the CUNYAC Tournament. The Dolphins had won the regular season meeting, 5-4. In fact CSI has won the last 11 regular-season meetings between the two sides dating back to 2007, but interestingly enough, the Bloodhounds have taken the only two postseason matchups within that time. CSI's road record against John Jay is 5-3. John Jay has won two-straight with one of those wins being their CUNYAC opener against Hunter College, 7-2, exactly one-week ago.
