The College of Staten Island women's tennis team will be looking to get back in the win column this afternoon, trying their hand against Baruch College, weather permitting at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. Match time is slated for 12 Noon. Early rains could put a damper on the contest, however, the match remains on as scheduled.
CSI vs BARUCH COLLEGE
Matchup: CSI (1-1, 0-1 CUNYAC) vs. Baruch (1-1, 1-1 CUNYAC)
Where: National Tennis Center - Flushing Meadow-Corona Park, Flushing, NY
All-Time Series: Baruch leads 16-15-1
Last Meeting: October 9, 2017, CSI won 5-4
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins continue to be steadies by junior
Hannah Bruschi, who is 2-0 in singles play, plated in the middle of the CSI lineup. Fellow juniors
Tristiana Adragna and
Katherine Villarroel are used to long matches this season and will look to lead the Dolphins again here this afternoon. Look for newcomer
Iris Cule to be an impact performer. Cule joined the team late and today's match is the first she is activated for. She could figure to break the top of the lineup.
Players to Watch (BC): Grace Graham has been occupying the top slot for Baruch and she is 1-1 this season with a big win over Lehman, helping the team to a 5-4 win against them. Also earning wins in singles play this year has been Lauren Kraker at No. 2 and Lejla Redzematovic who won her singles match at No. 3 against Lehman. Look for Baruch to try and use the top of the lineup again to lead them over the Dolphins
News & Notes: This has been a back-and-forth series between the two teams and Baruch holds a very modest 16-15-1 series edge over the Dolphins since the two teams began meeting in 1984. CSI won the only meeting last year by a thin margin, but prior to that the Bearcats won a pair of 7-2 decisions. Baruch has had the better edge when playing at home, usually at the National Tennis Center, holding a 9-5 edge in matches played on their home courts. Baruch has already played two conference matches. They narrowly defeated Lehman College, 5-4, but fell to Brooklyn, 9-0. CSi lost in their only CUNYAC meeting to defending champs John Jay College, 8-1, earlier this week.
