Players to Watch (CSI): CSI continues to be paced by CUNYAC Player of the Week
Megan McEwan, who is averaging a healthy 15.8 points per game, leading the way for the Dolphins with 30 three-pointers, 40 assists, and 35 steals. CSI's normal ball-handler, McEwan is also averaging a team-best 33.9 minutes per contest.
Diana Todaro has seen her prowess on the inside improve as well, as she is averaging 11.9 markers per game as CSI's only other double-digit scorer. She also holds the team's rebounding lead with 8.5 per contest, and her 27 steals sit second on the team.
Kayla Schmitter is next in line with 9.2 points per game in her debut season. Schmitter is averaging just 21.5 minutes per contest and has made just a single start. CSI has gotten great production in recent games from players like
Cristina Camerlengo, who put up a career-best 14 points on Thursday against York, and
Elena Demontreux, who is shooting 56% from the floor in limited duty.
Players to Watch (HC): The Hawks are putting up healthy offensive numbers this season, and they are paced by two dominant scorers in Jade Aponte and Janine Conway. Aponte leads all with 16.5 points per game, and boasts a team best 28 three-pointers with an 85.7% clip from the free-throw line. Right behind her, Conway is averaging 16.3 points per game, has 22 three's and is a superb 19-of-20 from the charity stripe. Marlena Budna is next in line, putting up 9.8 points per game, mainly from the interior, and her 8.3 rebounds per contest leads the team. Budna has played in just four games, but is a robust 62.5% from the field. Theresa Leung is a distance threat with 25 three-pointers this season, and she boasts 9.5 points per contest averaging just over 20 minutes per game.
News & Notes: Despite being down in the series overall, CSI has dominated the matchup of late, winning the last nine meetings dating back to 2014, a run that includes a post-season meeting in 2016. CSI's average margin of victory in that span has been 16.1 points per contest. CSI actually won both meetings last year by 16 points, winning in NYC, 67-51, and then on Staten Island, 63-47. The Dolphins are 18-11 all-time at home against Hunter, and the Hawks haven't beaten CSI on their home turf since February 11, 2014, a 79-76 win. CSi has won seven of the last eight at home against Hunter and CSI is currently 5-1 at home and sporting a three-game home winning streak. Meanwhile, the road has not been kind to the Hawks, who are 1-5 away from home this season and have dropped four-straight. Like the Dolphins, however, Hunter has had success in conference, and both teams share lopsided wins against both Medgar Evers College and York College. Both teams also share NYU as a common opponent. CSI was able to defeat NYU early in the season in a defensive battle, 53-43, while Hunter fell to NYU, 76-59.
