CSI VS. JOHN JAY AT-A-GLANCE
Matchup: College of Staten Island (7-5-1) vs. John Jay College (5-9)
Where: Randall's Island - New York, NY
Live Stats: https://johnjayathletics.com/sidearmstats/msoc/summary
All-Time Series: CSI leads 29-9-3
Last Meeting: October 30, 2018 (CUNYAC Tournament Semifinals) - CSI won, 2-1
Players to Watch (CSI): Philip Lefkowitz continues to lead the Dolphins in both goals with seven and owns a share of the team-lead in assists with three. Both Carlos Montesinos and Jahmali Peterson have added three goals of their own good for second on the team while Breny Salas registered both his first goal and third assist of the year in CSI's last game against CCNY on Saturday. Daniel Angulo, Bryant Navarro and Joe Bolella all have contributed multiple goals as well and both Navarro and Montesinos sit right behind assist leaders Salas and Lefkowitz with two assists each. In goal, both Christian Carucci and Jake Foeldes have gotten extensive time between the pipes with both allowing fewer than 1.80 goals per game. Carucci has saved two-thirds of the shots he's faced with Foeldes saving just over 63%. Defensively, the Dolphins have three players that have been in the lineup for at least twelve of their games while having played 900 minutes, Erick Conde, Mohammedou Sow, and Ryan Layman. This trio has been a big part of the reason why CSI has allowed fewer than 1.70 goals per game this season and Layman played a key role in CSI defeating John Jay in last season when he tied the score with a free kick late in the second half of that CUNYAC Semifinals matchup.
Players to Watch (JJC): John Jay's attack is spearheaded by three players that have scored six goals each, Andrew DeCanio, Dilshod Baymatov, and Mark Shnadshteyn. DeCanio's three assists also ties him for the team lead with Samson Marwieh. In addition to their scoring leaders, two other Bloodhounds have found the back of the net multiple times, James Haddad and Nicholas Towler. Towler has contributed his three goals from a spot on the back line and his brother Steven has started eleven of the Bloodhounds fifteen contests in goal. He has saved 75% of the shots he has faced and allowed 1.77 goals per game thus far.
News & Notes: Today's meeting between the Dolphins and Bloodhounds is their first since the 2018 CUNYAC Tournament Semifinals, a game that the Dolphins won 2-1 on overtime. A victory against CSI in that matchup last year would have been the first for the Bloodhounds against CSI since 2012. The Dolphins' next two opponents, John Jay today and Baruch on Saturday will be the same two teams they faced in the CUNYAC tournament last year with both hoping to spoil the Dolphins' perfect 2019 record against their former conference. After defeating John Jay 2-1 in the CUNYAC Tournament Semifinals last year, CSI fell to Baruch on penalty kicks in the CUNYAC Championship.
What's Next?: CSI will be playing a road game on their home turf this Saturday when they take on Baruch College at the CSI Soccer Complex immediately following the Women's Soccer season finale which kicks off at 12 PM. Live stats and streaming information for the men's game will be made available later in the week so stay tuned to our website for the latest information regarding coverage of the men's game against Baruch.
