10/7/2019 10:47:00 AM

The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team has now won four consecutive games after defeating Hunter College on Saturday and will look to make it a clean sweep of five straight CUNYAC opponents when they take on the Lehman College Lightning this afternoon at 4 PM.  The 5-3-1 Dolphins, now unbeaten in their last five games, are in search of their fifth win in a row while the 8-3 Lightning are looking to make it back-to-back wins after they also defeated Hunter in their previous match on Wednesday.

CSI VS. LEHMAN AT-A-GLANCE
Matchup: College of Staten Island (5-3-1) vs. Lehman College (8-3)
Where: CSI Soccer Complex, 2800 Victory Boulevard - Staten Island, NY
Live Stats: https://csidolphins.com/sidearmstats/msoc/summary
All-Time Series: Dolphins lead, 14-13-1
Last Meeting:  October 10, 2018 - CSI won, 1-0
Players to Watch (CSI):  The Dolphins continued to pile on the goals this Saturday when they found the back of the net five times against Hunter College.  Wasting no time putting CSI on the board was Jahmali Peterson who continued his strong play after being recognized as CUNYAC Rookie of the Week.  Philip Lefkowitz also added a goal to his team-leading total, and two of last year's three leading scorers alongside Lefkowitz, Bryant Navarro and Joe Bolella, also registered a goal.  In the midfield, Chris Vendra has helped facilitate the CSI attack while Wilson Quintero also contributed a goal and an assist against the Hawks from his backer position.   In net, Jake Foeldes earned another victory, his third during the recent four-game Dolphins winning streak.  He has also seen his goals allowed average continue to fall as the Dolphins attacking play has allowed them to dominate possession over this recent run of success.
Players to Watch (LC):  The Lightning come in five games over .500 due in large part to the contributions of their three leading scorers, Mubarak Ouro, Ebenezer Otoo, and Eduardo Victorio.  The three have combined to score 18 of the 24 Lehman College goals this season with Victorio also adding a team-best five assists as well.  In addition to Eduardo, midfielder Joel Arevalo has been a consistent playmaker as he has dished out another four helpers through Lehman's first eleven contests.  Not to be overlooked is the defensive play of the Lightning so far this season as they have outscored the opposition 24-8 so far in 2019.  Defensively, senior Abdel-Haqq Itito has anchored the back line and has played nearly 1000 minutes through eleven games, nearly 100 more than his next closest teammate.  In between the pipes, the starts have been split between two goalkeepers, Adrian Magana-Santos and Demiraldo Grunasi.  Grunasi has saved 77% of the shots he has faced while Magana-Santos has saved 73% with both allowing well below one goal per game.
News & Notes: The Dolphins lead the all-time series by a single game, 14-13, with the two sides having tied once.  Despite a 1-0 Dolphins victory last year, the Lightning have gotten the better of CSI in recent years with Lehman winning one regular-season and one CUNYAC playoff matchup against the Dolphins in both 2016 and 2017.  The Lightning are looking to even the all-time series today in what is likely to be the last meeting between the two sides as CSI transitions to NCAA Division II which includes East Coast Conference membership.
What's Next?: This meeting with the Lightning wraps up a five-game stretch against CUNYAC opponents for the Dolphins.  Up next for CSI is a pair of games against Division II programs on the road with the team traveling to face Wilmington on Wednesday and ECC member Mercy College on Saturday.  The Wednesday start time is 3:30 PM and the action gets underway on Saturday at 2 PM.
