Staten Island, NY  |  The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team made it a perfect five-for-five as they wrapped up a stretch of five consecutive games against CUNYAC opponents with a 2-1 victory over Lehman College.  The Dolphins, now 6-3-1 and winners of five in a row, are unbeaten through their last six matches and drop the Lightning to 8-4 on the season.
The Dolphins didn't take long to get on the scoreboard for the second straight game as an eighth-minute corner kick set up
Daniel Angulo to score his second goal of the season.  Following the corner taken by
Philip Lefkowitz, who was credited with the assist, Angulo was able to keep the ball low to the turf and put it by Lightning goalkeeper Demiraldo Grunasi.
Ahead 1-0, the Dolphins continued to keep the pressure on Grunasi coming up with many chances in close.  However, they came up empty on each of those and wouldn't get back into the goal column until a Lightning foul paved the way for the second CSI score.
Carlos Montesinos would be the one to take the ensuing free kick, and he was able to tuck the ball just underneath the crossbar and over the outstretched arm of Grunasi to put the Dolphins ahead by two.  Ten minutes later, the horn would sound to bring the first half to a close with CSI holding an 8-1 shot advantage and a 2-0 lead.
Much like the first half, the second half was filled with scoring opportunities for the Dolphins.  Through the first 15 minutes of half number two, CSI had already tallied six shots, many of which were from well within the box.  However, CSI failed to convert on chances from point-blank range allowing Lehman to remain within striking distance.
With the Dolphins failing to put the Lightning away, Lehman would finally break through for their first goal of the game with just over 20 minutes to play.  After the ball was headed into the center of the box by Mubarak Ouro, it found the foot of Abdel-Haqq Itito who drilled it past
Jake Foeldes and into the back of the net.  This made it 2-1 and set the stage for an increasingly physical final 20 minutes when the two teams combined to receive four yellow cards.
During the frenzy that followed the Lightning goal, CSI looked to put the game away with another five shot attempts, one of which sailed across the goalmouth and wide by
Jahmali Peterson and another that traveled just wide off the foot of Lefkowitz.  This left the door open for a Lightning equalizer, but they were unable to muster anything else on the attack the rest of the way and CSI held on for the 2-1 victory.
When the action concluded, the Dolphins had racked up 20 shots with only six of them being on goal.  For Angulo, his early goal was his second of the season while the goal scored by Montesinos was his third.  The assist from Lefkowitz on the game's opening goal was his team-leading third of the year.  The assist was the direct result of one of eight Dolphins corner kicks, an area where the Dolphins held an 8-0 advantage.  In what was a very physical game, the two teams combined to commit 29 fouls, 17 by Lehman and 12 by CSI.
With their five-game stretch against the CUNYAC now over, the Dolphins have a pair of Division II games upcoming on Wednesday against Wilmington and on Saturday against future ECC foe Mercy College.  The game on Wednesday begins at 3:30 and Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 2:00.
