All-Time Series: CSI leads 61-8
Last Meeting: Dolphins won, 99-84 - 1/19/2019
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins once again got a 20-point performance from Adeola Latunji in their previous game as he scored 22 on Saturday against the Spartans. Andrew Kartalis also added double-digits with 13 and both Joseph Zieris and Chris Velasquez added double-figures with 12 and 11 respectively. Latunji's 52% shooting continues to lead the team, but both Kartalis and Zieris have also eclipsed the 40% mark from the field. All three players have also shot at least 36% from beyond the arc as well. The team's second-leading scorer, Rigaud Destime, has also assumed playmaking duties alongside Austin Mick, the team's assist leader. CSI hasn't gone to the bench often this year, but Velasquez has shot the ball well in the last two games hitting seven of his thirteen attempts including seven of nine from downtown.
Players to Watch (CCNY): Leading the way for the Beavers offensively is Yassine Sakhi with 17.3 points per game. He has connected on 43.4% of his shot attempts including 38.2% of his three-pointers this year while also leading the team in rebounding with 7.7 per game. Right being Sakhi in both scoring and rebounding is Romello Rashad with 15.0 and 5.8 per game in those categories. Isaiah Denard is the last of a trio of double-digit scorers for the Beavers with 11.8 per game. Rashad is also the team leader in assists with 4.0 per game and Daniel Piszczatowski has scored 8.3 per game on 43.1% shooting, a percentage good for third on the team. Isaiah Williams rounds out the starting five that has remained the same in all six games for the Beavers and he has hit nearly 46% of his shot attempts including 41% of his three-pointers.
News & Notes: CSI has been dominant in the all-time series leading 61-8 including victories in the last eight meetings. CCNY last defeated the Dolphins in 2016 when they knocked of CSI 81-76. The victory is the only win for CCNY over the Dolphins in the last 21 tries, and this will likely be their last chance to get another at The Tank as CSI continues their transition in NCAA Division II that will see them begin full-time membership in the East Coast Conference last year. Despite their 0-6 start, the Beavers have lost games by four, by five, and in OT by just two. A big part of the reason CCNY has yet to pick up a win is that opponents have shot nearly 47% against them. Tonight they will be tasked with slowing down a hot Dolphins offense as the look to get in the win column.
What's Next?: The Dolphins will face another familiar CUNYAC opponent on Saturday when they travel to Medgar-Evers for a matchup against the Cougars. That game will get underway following the conclusion of the women's game to be played at 5:30.
