All-Time Series: First Meeting
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins have tallied five goals through their first four games, each scored by a different player. Two of last season's leading goal-scorers,
Philip Lefkowitz and
Joe Bolella, have registered a goal for CSI along with sophomore
Carlos Montesinos. Newcomers
Christian Puccio and
Lirim Gjonbalaj have also added a goal in support of goalkeepers
Jake Foeldes and
Christian Carucci. Foeldes has logged the majority of the minutes for the Dolphins this year, but Carucci picked up the win in the Dolphins lone victory over Rowan University. Seniors
Ryan Layman and
Erick Conde along with freshman
Mohammedou Sow have anchored the Dolphins defense so far this season, a unit which has performed well outside of one poor half against Adelphi last week.
Players to Watch (STAC): Much like the Dolphins, the Spartans have had several different players contribute a single goal so far this season. Freshman Amaan Aslam leads the way in scoring with both a goal and an assist, while Alejandro Camejo, Jack Hanlon, and Jorge Mazariego have all added one goal each. In net for the Spartans, Cameron Turner has spent the most time in between the pipes allowing just shy of four goals per game and taking the loss in all three of the Spartans' defeats. Also getting time in goal is Martin Ek Asheim who has similarly allowed over three goals per game in his two appearances in 2019. Defensively, the Spartans have their own pair of experienced seniors in the back including both Hanlon and Nicholas Fiore that will look to help slow down what has been a prolific Dolphins attack.
News & Notes: Today marks the first-ever meeting between these two future ECC rivals with both teams looking to end losing streaks. The Dolphins have dropped two in a row while the Spartans have lost each of their first three games this season. The matchup also marks the last time that the Dolphins will play an opponent outside of the CUNYAC until October 9
th at Wilmington. Between today's matchup with the Spartans and that meeting with Wilmington, the Dolphins face five consecutive CUNYAC opponents. For St. Thomas Aquinas, today's game against CSI wraps up a season-opening stretch of four non-conference matches as they will take on Bridgeport on September 21
st to kick off ECC play.
What's Next?: After today's game CSI will have to wait 9 days before their next match, a meeting with a familiar foe in CUNYAC rival Medgar-Evers. That matchup will take place at home on September 25
th with kickoff from the CSI Soccer Complex scheduled for 2:00.
