The College of Staten Island Women's Tennis team returns to action after six days off and will still be in search of their first win of the season when they take on Baruch College at the CSI Tennis Center this afternoon at 3:30 PM.
CSI vs. BARUCH COLLEGE
Matchup: College of Staten Island (0-4) vs. Baruch College (4-1)
Where: CSI Tennis Center - 2800 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, NY
All-Time Series: Â Baruch leads, 17-15
Last Meeting:Â September 23, 2018 - Baruch won, 8-1
Players to Watch (CSI):Â Â Tristiana Adragna remains in possession of the Dolphins lone singles win this season, but CSI did manage to pick up a victory from the No. 4 position against the Bearcats last season when
Mariah DeGuia won her singles matchup in straight sets, 2-0.Â
Lorianna Fernandez also earned a set victory out of the No. 6 position in the last meeting between the Dolphins and Bearcats, but ultimately lost that match two sets to one. In doubles, the Dolphins return the pairing that had the most success against Baruch last season in DeGuia and
Hannah Bruschi, but those two have not yet teamed together in 2019.
Players to Watch (BC): For the Bearcats, Hailey Feuer is unbeaten in the No. 1 position thus far with the rest of her team combining to win 17 of 25 sets in singles play in 2019. In doubles, the Bearcats boast a 13-2 mark on the season led by the unbeaten pairs of Feuer and Lejla Redzematovic and Victoria Kisling and Regina Kelley, both of which have played to a 4-0 record.
News & Notes: The Bearcats hold a narrow edge in the all-time series taking 17 of the 32 meetings between the two sides. The most recent Dolphins victory came in 2017 when CSI defeated Baruch 5-4. Since 2011, the Dolphins have won five of the eight meetings with the Bearcats including four straight from 2011 through 2014. With the Dolphins having dropped their first four matches of the year, they will need to snap a four-match Bearcats winning streak in order to get into the win column for the first time this season. Baruch opened their season with a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Farmingdale State, a common opponent between the Dolphins and Bearcats that handed CSI a 9-0 loss. However, they have beaten Yeshiva, Purchase, Lehman, and Brooklyn since looking to make it five in a row against the Dolphins today.
What's Next?: The Dolphins will take on the second of three straight CUNYAC opponents in their next match on Tuesday as Hunter College visits the CSI Tennis Center. First serve will be at 12:00 PM.
