The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team will look to continue to build upon their success against CUNYAC opponents when they take on York College on the road this afternoon at 2:00 PM. The 2-3-1 Dolphins will be looking to make it back-to-back victories in the second of five straight games against CUNYAC teams while the 1-7 Cardinals are looking to get back in the win column for the first time in two weeks.
CSI VS. YORK AT-A-GLANCE
Matchup: College of Staten Island (2-3-1) vs. York College (1-7)
Where: Randall's Island - New York, NY
All-Time Series: Dolphins lead 30-10
Last Meeting: 9/28/18 - CSI won 16-1
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins are coming off of an offensive onslaught against Medgar Evers which saw leading goal-scorer
Philip Lefkowitz add two more to his season total giving him four on the year. Freshman
Jahmali Peterson added two of his own in the game as well giving him a share of second in scoring on the team. Not only has Lefkowitz found the back of the net several times, but he also is tied for the team lead in assists with
Breny Salas with each of them having two. Both
Christian Puccio and
Bryant Navarro have played a big role in the Dolphins attack as well with the two of them being the only players outside of Lekowitz and Peterson to register both a goal and an assist through CSI's first 6 contests. The Dolphins have also gotten key contributions from freshmen
Daniel Angulo, who picked up his first goal against the Cougars, and
Mohammedou Sow, who has played nearly every possible minute for the Dolphins defensivley. In goal,
Jake Foeldes earned his first win of the season against Medgar Evers on Wednesday while also seeing his goals-allowed average fall to 2.25 in nearly 480 minutes across his five starts this season.
Players to Watch (YC): The Cardinals have been starved for goal scoring as they have only gotten on the scoreboard seven times so far this season. Three of those goals belong to Hans Merilan with both Marvin Mondesir and Steve Zang adding a goal and an assist. Defensively, it has been Vladimir Pavolic leading the way for the Cardinals as he is the lone senior on the back line who has played in every game to this point accumulating 712 minutes along the way. There is only one Cardinal who has played every minute of a possible 720 through York's eight matches and that distinction belongs to goalkeeper Jasper McCleod who has allowed just over three goals per game.
News & Notes: The Dolphins have a nine-game winning streak on the line against York when they face the Cardinals on the road today. That streak extends back to 2010 and the Cardinals haven't scored more than a goal in any game against CSI since the 2010 season as well. Last year, it was a controversial penalty call that led to the Cardinals lone goal in a 16-1 defeat at the hands of the Dolphins, a goal which ultimately turned out to be the only one allowed by CSI against the CUNYAC through the entire 2018 regular season.
What's Next?: After this matchup against the Cardinals, the second of five against CUNYAC opponents, the Dolphins will be back home to face Brooklyn College on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
