All-Time Series: CSI leads, 46-16
Last Meeting: February 2, 2019 - CSI won, 66-62
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins got big performances out of both leading-scorer
Adeola Latunji and second-leading scorer
Joseph Zieris on Wednesday night at Hunter in the CSI victory. The pair combined to shot 50% from the field and scored 41 of the 67 Dolphin points in what was a complete effort for the team that snapped a three-game skid.
Rigaud Destime scored in double-figures as well with 11 while
Austin Mick had 9 points and 6 assists. That pair assumed an even greater share of the playmaking duties on Wednesday as the Dolphins played only seven players against the Hawks. Because of the smaller rotation,
Krystian Kopec has assumed a larger role for the Dolphins since his return to the lineup and he played a season-high 29 minutes against Hunter.
James Delahanty and
Chris Velasquez played eleven and fourteen minutes respectively in CSI's last game which accounts for the last two of seven Dolphins that saw the floor.
Players to Watch (BC): The Bulldogs come in with a balanced scoring attack that has seen four players average double-digits. Also, the five players who have accounted for the majority of the Brooklyn starts have all scored at least 8.9 points per game. Leading that group is Michael Tesoriero with 13.3 points per game to go along with a team-leading 58 assists on the season. Jordan Wright has scored 11.3 per game, good for second on the team, with Brooklyn's next two top scorers, Joevanny Dambreville and Noah Shy, also holding the top two rebounding totals of 6.7 and 6.8 respectively. Rounding out Brooklyn's leaders in points as well as their regular starting five is Anthony McClean with 8.9 per game.
News & Notes: The Dolphins have won each of the last seven matchups with the Bulldogs dating back to January of 2017 and hold a sizeable 30-win advantage in the all-time series. However, the last Brooklyn victory over CSI was a big one as they knocked the Dolphins out of the 2016 CUNYAC Championship tournament in the semifinals round, 78-69. Entering today's game, the Dolphins have shot the ball far more efficiently than Brooklyn as they come in with a 41.3% shooting percentage as opposed to only 35.3% for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs do hold the advantage from beyond the arc by 3%, 33.5% to 30.5%, and have a net rebounding margin that is just shy of three boards better than CSI's. Despite this, it has been a struggle for both teams on the glass with Brooklyn being outrebounded by an average of 9.5 per game and the Dolphins by an average of 12.3 per game. In the last meeting between the two sides, the only Bulldog to break the 10-point mark was former Dolphin
Jade Spencer who is no longer with Brooklyn. For CSI,
Christian Taylor was one of two Dolphins to score double-digits, and he will also be missing from this matchup between two teams that will look very different from the squads that met last February.
What's Next?: Today's game is the first of back-to-back at home for the Dolphins with them returning to The Tank on Wednesday night for a 7:30 PM meeting with Lehman College. The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as their next game will be on Monday against Keystone College in La Pume, PA.
