All-Time Series: CSI leads, 54-15
Last Meeting: February 9, 2019 - CSI won, 72-55
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins continue to rely heavily on the scoring of
Adeola Latunji who leads the team with 21.6 points per game on 48.4% shooting to go along with a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game.
Joseph Zieris has also emerged as a major scoring threat scoring 17 and 16 points on an efficient 14-20 from the field in CSI's previous two games. He is also second on the team in rebounding behind Latunji with 5.1 per game and is shooting a team-leading 50.4% from the field. The return of
Andrew Kartalis in CSI's last game against Brooklyn is also a much-needed pickup for the Dolphins' offense as he has shot 43% from the floor and 35.7% from beyond the arc this season.
Austin Mick continues to be the primary playmaker for the Dolphins as he leads the team with 51 assists. He is also second on the team in outside shooting among players who have attempted at least 100 three-pointers at 32% shooting from downtown.
Players to Watch (LC): Isaiah Geathers has had a tremendous season for the Lightning thus far averaging 17.9 points to lead the team, pulling in 7.4 rebounds per game which is good for second on the team, and shooting 51.5% from the field. Gian Batista is right behind him with 17.8 per game on 44.7% shooting, and has also been a factor on the glass with 6.4 rebounds per game. Tommy Batista is the team's last double-digit scorer, and he continues the theme of efficient Lightning shooting with his 42.1% mark from the floor. Mo Idrissou has also been yet another high-percentage shooter for the Lightning knocking down 42.2% of his shots while scoring 9.8 points per game. However, no player has been more efficient than Alex Hanson who has hit a remarkable 68.5% of his field-goal attempts while grabbing a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game.
News & Notes: The recent history between these two teams has been highlighted by several hotly contested games as five of the last six matchups have been decided by six points or less. One of those games was the 2018 CUNYAC Championship which the Dolphins won by a final score of 77-75. The title win came following a regular season which saw the Lightning sweep the Dolphins finish atop the CUNYAC standings. The Dolphins have won each of the last two regular-season meetings since that championship game one game by five points and another by seventeen. A win tonight would give CSI a 40-win advantage in the all-time series and make it four in a row against Lehman College. The Lightning come in having already defeated York, Medgar Evers, and Brooklyn, all teams that CSI has lost to. However, they lost to Hunter College in their last game, the team that the Dolphins most recently defeated last week. Tonight, the Dolphins will need to slow down a Lightning offense that has connected on an impressive 45.7% of its shots while holding opponents to just north of 40%. The Lightning have also won the rebounding battle by about 6 while the Dolphins have been outrebounded by nearly 12 per game.
What's Next?: Today's game will be followed by six days off for the Dolphins before the return to action next Wednesday against Baruch. That game will be played on the road as part of a doubleheader and will tip-off at approximately 7:30 PM following the women's game.
