Last Meeting: January 4, 2020, John Jay won 81-64
Players to Watch (CSI): Adeola Latunji was once again the driving force behind the Dolphins offense against Baruch on Wednesday as he was the only CSI player to score in double-digits finishing the game with 20 points. Despite this,
Joseph Zieris has also been a force at the offensive end of the floor as of late having scored at least 16 points in the three games prior to Wednesday night's meeting with the Bearcats. Those two players are the leading scorers for CSI with
Rigaud Destime next in line with 9.3 per game.
Andrew Kartalis maintains a shooting percentage over 40% while scoring 8.8 per game and
Austin Mick leads the starting unit in both assists and three-point percentage with 54 helpers on the season and a 34% mark from beyond the arc.
Players to Watch (JJC): The Bloodhounds are led in scoring by Jayson Brower's 16.7 points per game on an efficient 46% from the field. Doug Levy also continues to put up big numbers for John Jay as he has scored 14.1 per game, pulled down 10.4 rebounds per game, shot 46.2% from the floor, and knocked down 46.6% of his threes. Kyle Laguardia is also hitting a high percentage of his shots and is leading the team in shooting at 57.4%. Angel Rivera is yet another John Jay player connecting on nearly half of his shots at 48.7% on the season and Romello Ford rounds out the regular starting five as the team's leading playmaker with 67 assists.
News & Notes: Though the Bloodhounds have won three of the last four meetings between the two teams, the lone victory during the four-game stretch by the Dolphins came in the 2019 CUNYAC Tournament semifinals last season. However, two of the three Bloodhounds wins in those last four games have come in very convincing fashion. The first was an 86-55 victory in the second regular-season meeting between the two teams last year, and the second came earlier this year in a 81-64 John Jay win over CSI at home. Latunji scored 27 for the Dolphins in the matchup and
Andrew Kartalis added 14 more, but no other Dolphin eclipsed the five-point mark in the seventeen point defeat. As for John Jay, they got double-digit scoring efforts from Brower, Laguardia, Rivera, and Levy with none of those players logging over 30 minutes in the game. These two teams could very well be facing each other for the final time as CSI's move to Division II comes with membership in the East Coast Conference which introduces a full block of ECC games to the CSI schedule next year.
What's Next?: The Dolphins will travel to New York for a matchup with CCNY as they will continue to face CUNAYC opponents for the remainder of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
