The College of Staten Island kept their undefeated Esports record intact, taking a 2-0 win over Molloy College tonight in the game of Valorant. CSI improved to 5-0 with the win while Molloy fell to 2-4. The win put the Dolphins one step closer to a playoff berth, something they can insure for themselves later this week. CSI took the first map of Bind, 13-7, following with a 13-4 win on Haven.
CSI was the attacking team first in each map. In the opener, they surrendered the first two games to the Lions before steadying play from there, piecing together big wins. The Dolphins would go on to take eight of the next 10 rounds to take an 8-4 lead on the switchover to defense. There, the two teams went back and forth, and Molloy closed to within 11-7 before CSI was able to rattle of fthe last two rounds to win it, 13-7.
Hadi Daoud led all Dolphins with 19 kills next to 12 deaths, while Ryan Lu posted 16 kills and just 11 deaths.
Christian Dumadag led all Dolphins with four first bloods posting 14 kills while
Kyle Tordecilla was killed the least times (8), while posting 14 kills of his own.
CSI got off to a great start in Haven, winning the first seven rounds before a Molloy response. That put CSI well on their way to a 10-2 lead after the attack phase, and after dropping two quick matches on defense, they rallied to outscore Molly, 3-2, on defense, to take an overall, 13-4, win.
Tordecilla was exceptional on this map, scoring 22 kills next to just five deaths with a pair of spike plants. Dumadag came in next with 17 kills, while Daoud and Lu both posted three spike plants apiece.
Now 5-0, CSI sits atop the standings, but their next three matches will be against the teams right below them in the standings. The first of those final three matches will be against Southern New Hampshire University, on Friday at 4:00 PM. SNHU will roll into the match at 4-1, so the match will determine first place in the standings, and should CSI win, it would guarantee them a playoff berth.
