CSI ESPORTS CLINCHES TOP SEED IN VALORANT WITH WIN OVER EAGLES, 2-0

10/26/2020 10:18:00 PM

In a match that clinched the ECC Valorant Regular Season Championship for the College of Staten Island, the Dolphins were able to get by St. Joseph's College (LI) by a 2-0 count.  CSI won on the map of Split, 13-6, followed by a 13-9 win in Ascent.  The win moved CSI to 7-0 overall ahead of their final regular season game next week, but insured them of the top spot along with the top-seed in the four-team ECC Postseason that kicks off in two weeks time.  The Golden Eagles fell to 4-3.

On the opening map of Bind, CSI attacked first, but it was the Eagles who drew first blood by scoring the point's first two rounds.  CSI would strike back to take a modest, 3-2, lead, and later, only up by two, CSI was able to muster up a pair of big wins to take an 8-4 lead on the switchover from attacking to defending.  Once there, CSI was right at home on the defense-heavy map, and even though SJC again scored the first two points to make it 8-6, CSI rattled off five wins in a row to take the point, 13-6.

Christian Dumadag as "Vici" was outstanding, putting up 24 kills next to just 10 deaths, scoring a match high six first bloods.  Ryan Lu was next in line with 21 kills next to just 10 deaths scoring four first bloods. Hadi Daoud chimed in with 13 kills and a pair of spike plants.

CSI's next map was Ascent and they found themselves on the attack first.  As was the case most of the night, CSI started slow, falling into a 3-2 hole.  Kyle Tordecilla scored a kill to tie things at 3-3, sporting a four-point run that would give CSi control at 6-3.  SJC fought back enough to close to within 7-5 at the switchover.  Then on defense, CSI stormed out of the gate with three-straight wins to take a 10-5 lead.  The Eagles refused to go quietly, closing to within 11-9, but CSi had time for two great matches, finished off by Dumadag to give CSI the 13-9 win.

Dumadag continued his phenomenal play with 25 more kills next to 14 deaths with 8 first bloods.  Tordecilla posted 17 kills, while Lu put up 16.

CSI is now 7-0, at least two games ahead in the loss column over every other ECC team with just one match left to play.  CSI's final match will be next Friday, November 6, against winless Daemen College (0-7).  SJC-LI fell to 4-3, one-half game behind fourth-place Farmingdale State (4-2), which right now holds the No. 4 seed in the conference come playoff time.
