About Valorant:  Valorant is a relatively new first-person shooter where teams work in groups of five as either attackers or defenders in a series of rounds.  Rounds are two minutes long and each round has a winner that scores a point.  Points are scored by attacking teams if they eliminate the five defenders or they successfully plant a spike (bomb) in a specific location and it explodes by the time the round is over.  Defending teams win the round's point if they eliminate all five attackers before the spike is planted or if they successfully diffuse or prevent the spike from exploding by the time the timer ends.  The team that successfully scores 13 points wins 1 overall game, and in order to win an entire match, a team must win two out of three games.  Players choose one of 12 agents to play with before a round begins each with their own specialties, and after each point in a round, players get to spend economy credits boosting their character in categories like weaponry and armor. Teams take turns being attackers and defenders 12 rounds at a time.
News & Notes:  Valorant is a new video game that debuted in late-spring as a beta version before a relatively final version in late-July, although the game has been patched often.  As such, it is the first time the ECC is sponsoring the game for competitive play, putting all the ECC programs on relatively even footing.  This is the first-ever matchup between CSI and Farmingdale State in the Esports landscape, and the two teams will meet again on Friday in the game of Overwatch for another first time meeting.  FSC enters 1-1.  They lost their first match against New York Tech, 2-0 (13-10, 13-11), but bounced back the easy way a week later when they were issued a forfeit win against Daemen College.  They were on a bye last week and did not play, so tonight will be their first action in Valorant since September 16.  CSI enters tonight's action 2-0.  After a first-week bye, they defeated New York Tech in their opener, 2-0, On September 20, scoring 13-2, and 13-3, wins.  Last week, they defeated Mercy College with another pair of wins, 13-6, 13-1.  CSI is the ECC's only undefeated team, although they have played one less match than NYIT, Southern New Hampshire and St. Joseph's College (LI), who are all 2-1.
What's Next?:  CSI's next Valorant match will take place on Wednesday, October 14, against Hood College, at 7:00 PM.  Hood is 1-1 this season and plays Southern New Hampshire (2-1) tonight.  In other matches this week, NYIT (2-1) plays Mercy (1-2), and Molloy (1-2) plays Daemen (0-3).
