About Valorant: Valorant is a relatively new first-person shooter where teams work in groups of five as either attackers or defenders in a series of rounds. Rounds are two minutes long and each round has a winner that scores a point. Points are scored by attacking teams if they eliminate the five defenders or they successfully plant a spike (bomb) in a specific location and it explodes by the time the round is over. Defending teams win the round's point if they eliminate all five attackers before the spike is planted or if they successfully diffuse or prevent the spike from exploding by the time the timer ends. The team that successfully scores 13 points wins 1 overall game, and in order to win an entire match, a team must win two out of three games. Players choose one of 12 agents to play with before a round begins each with their own specialties, and after each point in a round, players get to spend economy credits boosting their character in categories like weaponry and armor. Teams take turns being attackers and defenders 12 rounds at a time.
News & Notes: CSI has been having their way in Valorant this season, and if it holds up for a few more weeks they could see themselves as champions soon. By virtue of their undefeated record, CSI has already won the regular season title, as no other ECC school has less than two losses, and they will be the top of four seeds that enter the playoffs next week. CSI has only had a single point scored on them all season, and that was against Southern New Hampshire on October 23, a match they came back and won, 2-1. As for Daemen, they are on the opposite end of CSI, and while the Dolphins hope to stay unblemished, the Wildcats are hoping to avoid going winless. They are 0-7 this season, and certainly have had their struggles, but will come in tonight looking to give the ECC notice that they will be back next year in top form. As we head into the final game of the season, the three other ECC playoff spots are up for grabs, with four teams in the running. Southern New Hampshire takes on Farmingdale State as well tonight, and the winner of that game will be the conference's No. 2 seed. The losing side in that game could still make the playoffs if St. Joseph's College (LI) falls to Mercy College in their final game. If SJC-LI wins their final game, there will be a three-way tie between NYIT, SJC-LI, and the loser of SNHU va. Farmingdale, for the final two playoffs spots, and the ECC will have to determine tiebreakers to see who gets in of the three.
What's Next?: A week from tonight, the four-team ECC Playoffs will begin. CSI will be playing as the top seeds, and their opponent is yet to be determined. In other games this week, Southern New Hampshire (5-2) plays Farmingdale State (5-2), St. Joseph's College - LI (4-3) plays Mercy College (1-6), and Hood College (2-5), takes on Molloy College (3-4).
