DOLPHINS FALL TO MOLLOY IN ESPORTS OVERWATCH SEMIFINAL, 3-1

11/6/2020 9:49:00 PM

The College of Staten Island Esports Overwatch team saw a terrific season come to a disappointing end, as they fell to No. 3 Molloy College as part of the East Coast Conference Postseason Playoffs' Semifinal Round of competition.  Molloy (7-2), will face top-seeded New York Tech (9-0) in next week's championship final, while the Dolphins finalized their season at 6-3.

The Dolphins started out strong in this one, winning both control points in the Control stage on the map of Oasis, quickly taking a 1-0 lead in the match overall.  Shane Drucker clocked in with 24 High Energy Kills while Hadi Daoud posted a game best 36 eliminations helping CSI to victory.

Up next was control, and although CSI is usually quite strong here, it was the Lions that posted the comeback to tie things up.  CSI defended first on the Hanamura map, giving up both points, but got them both back on the attack to set up a battle for the final point and win.  There Molloy was able to score a win pretty quickly to take the 3-2 win in the round and knot the score up at 1-1 overall.  Kevin Alushllari led all CSI players with 18, 706 damage points blocked.

In the very important round of Hybrid, the map was King's Row, again Molloy was the victor, as they went on the attack first, scoring all three points with 3:40 to spare.  CSI needed to equal or better that result to continue play and they did, completing their three points as well.  Both teams would do it again with Molloy getting 3:11 in their round and CSI just 2:00 even.  CSI attacked first and were able to gain control of the point but could not pick up a payload progress point and settled for a 4-3 lead.  Molloy then had their turn, and they were able to score control quick to tie and with just 1:20 to spare, Molloy was able to reach a payload point to score the 5-4 win in the round, and the 2-1 lead overall.  Despite the loss, Daoud posted 6,801 Damage Reflected and Andrew Shnoda posted 20,444 Healing.

With their backs up against the wall, CSI needed a win in the Escort round on the map of Havana.  Again CSI defended first and limited Molloy to just two points, meaning if CSI could escort their payload all the way across in their turn to attack, they could tie the game.  Unfortunately, Molloy's defense was up to the task.  Just seconds away from matching Molloy's payload point, CSI was just not able to get there as the Lions were too strong on defense, sending CSI home early, 2-1 in the round and 3-1 overall.  Despite the loss, Daoud put up 49 eliminations while Elizabeth Garrison posted 45 defensive assists.

Although dismayed by the loss, CSI had a terrific season.  They finished their first-ever season in Overwatch at 6-3, making it to the playoffs in their inaugural year.
