About Overwatch: Overwatch is a fast-paced, first-person shooter, where teams are matched up six against six to battle in a series of different competitive scenarios. Gamers choose a character to control in one of three different roles: Tank (defenders), DPS (damage inflictors), and Support (healers). The ECC follows a format where teams try to win a best-of-five competition with a point earned per round played. Each of the five rounds of play are different, with modes generally centered around sequentially securing control of points on the map, or escorting a payload between points on the map, with one team attacking while the other defends, or a combination of those scenarios. Rounds can take anywhere from 15-40 minutes with an entire match extending between two to three and a half hours, depending on the competitive matchup.
News & Notes: After an eight-game regular season with nine teams in the ECC, the top four have made it to the playoffs which take place tonight and next Friday. New York Tech in the ECC's top seed, sporting an undefeated 8-0 campaign. CSI, Molloy, and Southern New Hampshire, each finished 6-2, but due to tiebreakers, CSI came out on top, with Molloy following, and SNHU finishing fourth. They are playing NYIT this evening in their half of Semifinal play. These two teams met in what was at the time CSI's first-ever Esports match on September 11. The Dolphins took the rounds of Control and Assault to take a 2-0, and after taking a good lead in Hybrid, they were foiled and Molloy made it a 2-1 game. CSI did, however, respond in the Escort round to ultimately take a 3-1 win. Their only two losses this season were to NYIT and Southern New Hampshire. Molloy was able to defeat SNHU, but also fell to NYIT.
What's Next?: Should CSI advance, it's a date with either NYIT or SNHU in the ECC Championship next Friday night, tentatively scheduled for 7:00 PM. A loss and CSI Esports season in Overwatch is over.
