All-Time Series: Hunter leads, 40-35
Last Meeting: January 8, 2020, Hunter won 75-71
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins have now won ten games in a row due in large part to the contributions of their three leading scorers,
Megan McEwan, reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Jada Rogers, and
Diana Todaro. McEwan leads the team with 14.6 points on 38.1% shooting to go along with a team-leading 88 assists, Rogers is averaging 10.1 per game on 44.1% shooting, and Todaro is averaging a double-double with 10.1 points and 11.1 rebounds while shooting a team-high 50.5%.
Deidre Foster and
Kayla Schmitter are both scoring just shy of 9 points per game while shooting over 40% from the field and
Kristina Arvelo continues to lead the team in three-point percentage at 35.4% from beyond the arc.
Players to Watch (HC): Hunter is led in scoring by Janine Conway's 18.4 points per game with Theresa Leung and Phoebe Velenton also eclipsing the ten-point mark in points per game. Conway is second on the team in shooting percentage at 43.6% and both Leung and Valenton are shooting above the 40% mark as well. Leung's 36% shooting from downtown is good for second on the team behind Kimberly Lau's 42.1%, but this has only been enough to push the Hawks just above 30% from long range as a team. However, they have shot above 40% from the field and Nicole Ballin's 46.2% shooting leads players who have attempted more than 25 shots. Maya Thompson is the team-leader in rebounding with 6 per game and she rounds out a group of five Hawks that have shot at least 40% from the floor.
News & Notes: The Hawks were the last team to beat the Dolphins in a game played at Hunter College just over one month ago in Manhattan. The Dolphins trailed by two in the closing seconds with a chance to tie, but a costly turnover on the ensuing possession allowed Hunter to close out the Dolphins from the free-throw line. The Dolphins had four players register double-digits led by 16 from
Deidre Foster.
Kristina Arvelo,
Megan McEwan and
Diana Todaro all scored in double-figures as well. Theresa Leung and Kristina Krslovic both scored 16 and Janine Conway scored 11 in a game where the Hawks shot an incredibly efficient 45.2% from the field and 46.9% from three-point range. This high-percentage shooting proved to be the difference in the game as the Dolphins only hit 37.3% of their shot attempts and 30% of their three-pointers. However, the two teams have very similar shooting numbers on the year with nearly identical percentages from the field and from beyond the arc. The Dolphins have been the much better team on the glass this season, but only won the rebounding battle by three in the last meeting between the two sides. In what could very well be their last game against Hunter College, CSI will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak against the Hawks while the Hawks will be looking to sweep the Dolphins for the second consecutive season.
What's Next?: The Dolphins will play their final game of the season on Tuesday night against Baruch College at The Tank. The Dolphins will recognize their seniors ahead of that matchup with the Bearcats with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 PM.
