CSI IMPRESSIVE IN ESPORTS DEBUT; TURN BACK MOLLOY, 3-1

9/11/2020 10:11:00 PM

Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island's official entry into Esports gaming was a successful one, as the Dolphins banded together to score a 3-1 victory over Molloy College in the game of Overwatch as part of opening night of league play this evening.  CSI improved to 1-0 with the win, while Molloy fell to 0-1.

If CSI was nervous in anticipation of their first ever match, they certainly did not show it when play started in the match of Control.  Molloy got off to a good early lead in the opening round, gaining the first 42% of the capture point, but from there CSI started to rake up the momentum, using effective heals to roar back and win 100-42, winning the opening round.  CSI took the second round as well to take the opening point, using a barrage of kills to win 100-54 in just about four minutes to take the 1-0 lead.

In the next match of Assault, CSI was crisp as the attacking team, taking two points in about four minutes before having to defend.  After surrendering a point as defenders, CSI took the high ground in Hanamura Map, and pummeled the Lions to win the second defense point, scoring four team kills to take a commanding 2-0 overall score in the game.

Hybrid was next up and again CSI seemed destined for a win when they finished their capture and payload delivery in almost half the time that Molloy did, setting up a tiebreaker to their advantage.  The Lions, however, refused to quit and they defended terrifically as CSI was unable to avoid enemy snipers, and Molloy was able to claim victory in a 25-minute session to crawl back to within 2-1.

CSI returned the favor, however, in the fourth match of Escort.  Each team was able to escort their payload successfully but Molloy finished with a faster time, setting themselves up nicely for a tiebreaker, but here, Kulla's defense matrix with Sigma was a tremendous counterattack that was able to turn the tide against William's Bastian, that had tremendous success the first time around, and the Dolphins were able to hold Molloy in the overtime with Diva and Stigma's defense being the difference.

Now 1-0, CSI will look to continue the forward gaming next Friday, when they face off against Daemen College, another new team within the ECC this season.
