ESPORTS EXPLAINED: ALL ABOUT VALORANT

Staten Island, NY | This Sunday evening, the College of Staten Island will be making its official debut into Esports game of Valorant, taking on ECC-rivals New York Tech, one of two video games the Esports team will be tackling this semester as part of competitive gameplay within the East Coast Conference.  But what exactly is Esports, and what exactly is Valorant?  CSI's David Pizzuto chatted with Valorant Team Manager Ryan Lu, along with Esports Coordinators Alberto Sanchez and Sal Caruso to find out more about this exciting game, the team behind it, and what it takes to win, in an exclusive Q&A Zoom interview available now.

In time for CSI's first match, which will be aired in its entirety on CSI SportsNet, the group shed light on a myriad of topics pertaining to Esports, and Valorant specifically, including:
  • Origins of Esports and the Valorant video game series
  • Rules of the game and of the ECC competitive season
  • Strategies behind successful team gameplay
  • What should viewers look for and some insight into the team
  • What it takes to be a dedicated Esports gamer, and Valorant participant
  • Expectations for the coming season and beyond
CSI's official debut in Esports came in the game of Overwatch on September 11, and have two matches under their belt in that league.  The Dolphins make their Valorant debut on Sunday night at 8:30 PM against New York Tech, moved up from their original September 23 date. Esports started within the ECC in 2018, but this is the first year the conference is sponsoring Valorant.  All matches, during the COVID-19 pandemic are played remotely and online.
