Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Esports team made a terrific debut in the game of Valorant tonight, sailing by New York Tech in their first offering of the season, 2-0.  CSI won by scores of 13-2 and 13-3, winning the first point on the Bind map and the second on the Ascent map.  CSI lifted its record to 1-0, while NYIT fell even at 1-1.

In the opening map of Bind, CSI was able to take the first two rounds on defense, but the Bears countered by taking the third point, setting the stage for a back-and-forth start.  But the Dolphins had other plans, and thanks to great communication and teamwork, CSI rattled off the next eight rounds in winning fashion, all on defense, as NYIT was only able to plant a spike twice, both times diffused.  CSI was up 10-2 after defense.  The Bears won their first defense point to make it 10-3, but CSI was able to plug away and eliminate the Bears in each of the next three rounds to take the opener, 13-2.

Christian Dumadag was CSI's leader in the opener, scoring 21 kills, while Hadi Daoud's Xeromous was terrific, scoring 19 kills next to just four deaths.  Stephen DeVito scored 13 kills, while Ryan Lu posted 12.

The second map was Ascent, and CSI found itself right where it wanted to be as the defending side for the first 12 rounds.  The Bears got off the first point, successfully pinning CSI down and eliminating them via the kill, but CSI bounced back in excellent fashion, firing off 10-straight wins, overwhelming the Bears with great sniping ability and heavy ultimates.  Kyle Tordecilla clutched wih three kills to finish off NYIT for CSI's 11th point in the round, a flawless one.  After defense, CSI was up 9-3, and as the attackers, they were even better, posting four-straight wins to win it, 13-3.

In the second point, it was Lu leading the way with 20 kills for CSI next to just eight deaths.  Dumadag was extraordinarily efficient, registering 18 kills next to just six deaths, scoring eight first blood kills.

CSI will next face Mercy College on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, with match time set for 8:00 PM.
