A little over a week ago, CSI Esports made their competitive debut in the game of Overwatch. Now it is time to turn the page on a second Esports in the game Valorant, and CSI starts their season tonight against New York Tech at 8:30 PM. It's the season opener for CSI, who spent week 1 on a bye within the ECC. NYIT, meanwhile, comes in with a record of 1-0, after a win against Farmingdale State in their opener yesterday.

About Valorant: Valorant is a relatively new first-person shooter where teams work in groups of five as either attackers or defenders in a serieds of rounds. Rounds are two minutes long and each round has a winner that scores a point. Points are scored by attacking teams if they eliminate the five defenders or they successfully plant a spike (bomb) in a specific location and it explodes by the time the round is over. Defending teams win the round's point if they eliminate all five attackers before the spike is planted or if they successfully diffuse or prevent the spike from exploding by the time the timer ends. The team that successfully scores 13 points wins 1 overall game, and in order to win an entire match, a team must win two out of three game. Players choose one of 12 agents to play with before a round begins each with their own specialties, and after each point in a round, players get to spend economy credits boosting their character in categories like weaponry and armour. Teams take turns being attackers and defenders 12 rounds at a time.
News & Notes: Valorant is a new video game that debuted in late-spring as a beta version before a relatively final version in late-July, although the game has been patched often. As such, it is the first time the ECC is sponsoring the game for competitive play, putting all the ECC programs on relatively even footing. This is the first-ever matchup between CSI and NYIT in the Esports landscape. They will meet later in the season in the game of Overwatch. NYIT has already had one game played this season, and are 1-0.
What's Next?: Valorant matches normally take place on Wednesdays, and CSI's next matchup will be on Wednesday, September 30, at 8:00 PM, against Mercy College.
