Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Esports squad stayed undefeated for 2020, upping their record in Valorant to 2-0, with a 2-0 win over Mercy College in Week 3 match play within the ECC Esports Valorant League. CSI won the first game 13-6 on the Split map, then took a resounding 13-1 win in the second map of Haven.
CSI was in familiar position to start off the match, as they found themselves as defenders for the first 12 rounds of Split. The cohesive unit played well, spreading out to defend both sites and communicating effectively to outlast Mercy, only allowing the Mavericks to plant the spike a small handful of times. Steven DeVito shined in the early rounds, and then it was
Hadi Daoud shining as he amassed a total of 24 kills, seven more than any other player by the time the game was over. CSI took a big 10-2 lead as the defenders. The Mavericks definitely started to get some confidence back when they had their turn to defend. After yielding the first point, they began to rattle off wins as CSI struggled to keep their five players alive as Mercy closed to within 12-6, but some great headshots in the final round secured the win for CSI, 13-6.
Kyle Tordecilla scored 14 kills for CSI, while Devito finished with 13 and Ryan Lu had 12.
For the second map, Haven was chosen, and CSI was chosen as the attacking side first, a first for them. They left very little to doubt, blitzing Mercy with a handful of one-sided wins as they raced out to a 9-0 lead. They were led by the spectacular shooting of
Christian Dumadag, who was on fire throughout the game, scoring headshot after headshot while also dying once over the first nine rounds. CSI was ahead 11-1 after attacking, and made it quick on defense, eliminating all five Mavericks in both defending rounds to win, 13-1.
Dumadag would finish with 25 kills next to just four deaths, including five first bloods, easily the round's top player. Daoud finished with 16 kills, while Lu posted 15 targets down. Tordecilla led the way for CSI with five spike plants.
Now 2-0, CSI will look to keep their winning streak on the line next week, when they take on Farmingdale State at 7pm on Wednesday, October 7.
