DOLPHINS AND GOLDEN FALCONS TIE FOLLOWING EXHILARATING DOUBLE-OVERTIME FINISH, 1-1

STATEN ISLAND, NY -   With both teams looking for their third consecutive win, the College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team battled Felician University to a 1-1 draw this afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park. The tie, the first of the season for both sides, brought CSI to 3-6-1 and moved Felician to 4-5-1.

KEY MOMENTS

Following a Golden Falcons throw from goalkeeper George Hernandez, the Dolphins press forced a turnover that would lead to the first goal of the match. After gaining possession, Daniel Angulo threaded the needle with a through ball to Nermin Buljubasic who put it past Hernandez for the opening goal. The Dolphins took the 1-0 lead into the break, but in the second half Felician netted the equalizer on a close-range shot by Ben Batson.  Only the Dolphins came close to netting the golden goal in overtime as it was Samuel Gonzaga who saw a shot attempt saved by Hernandez deflect into the crossbar and out of play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The Dolphins held a massive advantage in shots, 26-5, including thirteen shots on goal. Not accounted for in those thirteen shots on target were the three Dolphins attempts that hit the crossbar and a pair of failed breakaways. In yet another physical match the two sides combined for 38 fouls and five yellow cards were issued, three in the second half and a pair in the first overtime. For the Dolphins, Buljubasic became their seventh goal-scorer and Angulo picked up his team-leading second assist on CSI's lone score.

DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME

Offensively it was the connection of Angulo and Bujabasic that accounted for the lone Dolphins' goal. However, it was the defensive play of Brian Kerilu and Leandro Angulo that kept the game tied. The latter duo helped the Dolphins control possession in the midfield during the first half with Kerilu turning a successful tackle into a breakaway for Jahmali Peterson at the other end of the pitch in the second half.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Dolphins return to East Coast Conference competition the weekend when they travel to Sparkill, NY to take on St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday at 2 PM.
