GAMEDAY: WOMEN’S SOCCER TRAVEL TO DAEMEN COLLEGE AS PART OF ECC DOUBLE HEADER MATCHUP

10/23/2021 9:30:00 AM

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team (3-11-1, 2-3-1 ECC) head to Williamsville, NY for a Saturday afternoon East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup against the Wildcats of Daemen College (6-4-1, 5-0-1 ECC). The women kickoff at 1:30 pm after the men wrap up their morning conference clash. This will be the first matchup ever for the women. After today's game, and after a stop at Dominican College, CSI will have two ECC matchups left that will wrap up their season, both at home. The Wildcats are currently the only undefeated ECC team left in the conference, only Mercy College is ahead at, 6-1 in the ECC. A win for CSI would place them in fourth, with a Roberts Wesleyan loss, who is currently fourth at, 3-3 and play, 1-3, D'Youville College today.

LAST TIME OUT
The Dolphins fell to East Stroudsburg University (ESU), 1-0, in a non-conference matchup. CSI players sported their pink socks as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness festivities during Thursday's home game at Dolphin Soccer Park. Ultimately it was an own goal that doomed CSI in the loss. In CSI's last two ECC matchups, CSI picked up a thrilling win against St. Thomas Aquinas College, 1-0 and tied D'Youville College, 1-1 in double overtime. The Wildcats also had a win against STAC, 2-1, two weeks ago. Most recently, Daemen drew a 2-2 tie against University of Bridgeport.

DOLPHINS TO WATCH
Thus far this season, only three Dolphins have played in and started all 15 games. Freshmen Jenna Como, Sophomore Angye Galan and Freshmen Megan Meagher, two midfielders and one defender that have done a nice job winning and clearing balls in the middle all season long. Como also leads the team with two assists, while Nadia Evola does her part scoring three of CSI's nine goals of the season. Dolphin Goalkeeper, Sara Villacres has played well in the net the last two games, giving up only one goal (via own goal) and saving nine shots, including six saves in the, 1-0, win versus ECC foe STAC a week ago.
