DOLPHINS DROP ANOTHER ONE GOAL RESULT TO MOLLOY COLLEGE, 1-0

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team hosted their second conference matchup of the week this afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park when they took on the Molloy College Lions. In yet another game decided by a single goal, the Lions netted the lone score of the match in the fortieth minute on their way to the 1-0 win. The defeat dropped the Dolphins to 3-10-2 on the season, 1-6-1 in conference play. The Lions improved to 9-6-2 overall and 5-2-1 against ECC opponents.

KEY MOMENTS

Both teams vied for the advantage in what was a very evenly-matched first half with the Lions ultimately picking up the game's only goal in the closing minutes of half number one. The Molloy goal came following a corner kick that was redirected twice, once by Ollie Murch onto the head of Connor Gervasi, and again by Gervasi onto the foot of the goal-scorer Danny Muir. After receiving the ball from Gervasi, Muir was able to square up in front of the Dolphins goal at point-blank range and fire a shot past Omer Hamzacebi and into the back of the net. The goal, Muir's second of the season, was all the offense Molloy would need as they held on to the one-goal advantage for the remainder of the match to earn the 1-0 shutout victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The Lions held a distinct advantage in shots, 16-7 overall and 9-3 in shots on goal, and in corner kicks, 9-4. Hamzacebi also added another eight saves to his season total, but the one-shot that got by him was enough to beat CSI on this day. The one-goal defeat marks the fourth time in the last ten matches that CSI has been on the losing end of a 1-0 result and extends the CSI winless streak to six matches. For Molloy, Jordan Schleeper was a major catalyst on the attack despite playing just forty-eight minutes as he registered nine shots, six of which were on target.

DOLPHINS OF THE GAME

Today's Dolphin of the game assumed an increased role serving as the team captain while giving the team a boost at both ends of the pitch. Nilton Gonzalez made his presence felt defensively with several attack-halting plays throughout the match. He also gave the Dolphins one of their best scoring chances on a late free kick near the end of the second half. In the absence of Leandro Angulo and Daniel Angulo, Gonzalez stepped up in a big way, and along with fellow defenders Dennis Coticelli and Nicholas Kishenko, he played the full ninety minutes.
