DOLPHINS SQUANDER HALFTIME LEAD IN LOSS TO TIGERS, 59-50

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team were held to a single point in the third quarter in route to a, 59-50, loss to the Tigers of Holy Family University. The loss moves CSI's record to 1-1 overall, while the Tigers improve to 1-1 overall. The Dolphins come out of their first ever Conference Challenge Tip-off Tournament as a DII program breaking even, picking up a win and a loss to start their 2021-22 season over the weekend. The Conference Challenge was sponsored by TLC Physical Therapy and Jersey Mike's. In game one of today's tournament visiting teams, Franklin Pierce University defeated Wilmington University, 69-57.
 
KEY MOMENTS
The Dolphins looked good early on but so did the Tigers, as the first quarter was a back-and-forth affair that ended in a 14-14 tie. As the second quarter got underway, CSI would score the first six points, capped by a Gia Esposito three, giving CSI a, 21-16 lead. The Tigers would come right back and tie it with six straight points of their own. With the scored tied, 21-21, The dolphins would make their biggest run of the game, it was a layup by Elizabeth Lofaro that gave CSI a nine-point advantage, 30-21. HFU would cut the lead down to seven before heading into halftime. As the third quarter started, HFU would hit a three right out the gate and continued to score the basketball the entire third quarter as the Dolphins would was not able to register a field goal while being outscored, 18-1 in the quarter. CSI played much better in the fourth, although, HFU would go up by as many as 16 points early the Dolphins would make their push at a comeback, two layups and a free throw by Lafaro would cut the Tigers lead down to seven 53-46, with three minutes to play in the game. However, HFU would seal the deal with three buckets in a row, in the next two minutes of play to pull away for a final score of, 59-50.  
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Dolphins shot 33% overall from the field, slightly better than the Tigers who shot 30%, though, it was rebounding that helped HFU to win. HFU grabbed 54 rebounds (24 on the offensive end) compared to CSI's 31 board and only five offensive rebounds. CSI committed 22 turnovers that HFU turned into 23 points. CSI also gave up 18 second chance points.
 
DOLPHINS OF THE GAME
Ashley Lambert and Elizabeth Lofaro both scored in double digits, with 13 and 14 points respectively and were big for the Dolphins in the first half and in the fourth quarter comeback attempt. Lambert took eight shots in the game, hitting 3-7 three-pointers. She also grabbed four rebounds, though, registered a team high of six turnovers. Lofaro shot 5-11 from the floor, hitting one three, while grabbing a team high seven rebounds and dishing out a team high of three assists.
