DOLPHINS IMPRESS AT FASTRACK SEASON-OPENER FOR INDOOR TRACK & FIELD TEAMS

Staten Island, NY – In what was a late Friday night on December 3rd, The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams had an impressive run in the Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex. Overall, the Dolphins competed in ten events among the ten plus schools in attendance. Three Dolphins broke previous school records in the 60-meter dash, shot-put, and 200-meter run events. Along with breaking the record, senior Idrissa Sam Kabba took first place overall in the 60-meter dash with an impressive time of 7.11 seconds.

INSIDE THE MEET

The women's squad competed in five total events, and many Dolphins made their colligate debut. The highlight for the women came in the shot-put event when Ava Thompson broke the school record with an 8.59-meter throw. Thompson also competed in the Weight Throw event placing 13th with a 10.94-meter throw. Florentina Lonati also debuted in shot-put and scored a 7.28-meter throw. In the 60-meter dash, Emily Albano, Natalie Benites, Nadia Evola, and Kollen Rodriguez all came with times under 10 seconds. The best finish came from Albano, placing 11th with a time of 9.06 seconds. In the 800-meter dash, Julia Calvo and Alexandrea Jackson finished in the middle of the pack (14th & 16th) among the 31 total runners. Hailey Caruso also raced and placed 25th overall. In the 200-meter, Caitlyn Burns made her debut and placed 33rd with a time of 28.26 seconds.

The men's team also competed in five events. In the men's 1-mile run, Alan Bass and Daniel Palmieri finished in the lower half among the 44 total runners. In the 60-meter dash, Idrissa Sam Kabba had a record-breaking performance. Also in that same race were Dennis Coticelli, Kyle Quesda and Olatian Okeowo. Ahmed Khodir and Samuel Pope competed in the 800-meter run. Freshmen Vicent Ohenhen and Quesda made their 200-meter dash debut. Ohenhen finished 11th overall with a time of 22.76 seconds, a new school record. In the final race of the night, Spencer Milito competed in the 5000-meter run, placing 15th with a time of 16:54.55.

COACH'S REACTION

After a long night, Head Coach Andrew Gangemi had this to say about his team's performance in the season opener. "Overall, we had a solid day, but the main thing was we got back to competing again. We had stellar performances out of Idrissa and freshmen Vincent Ohenhen and Ava Thompson, all breaking school records in their respective events."
