STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their 2025–26 season on Saturday afternoon at the Youree Garcia Invitational at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.
The Dolphins posted an impressive start, breaking four school records—three on the women's side and one on the men's—while several athletes also set personal bests.
Rookie Mia Bowden delivered the first record of the season, winning her heat of the 300m dash in 42.96, a personal best. Adonijah Washington set two records on the day: the 500m run with a time of 1:23.28 (12th of 18) and the triple jump at 11.49m , earning a second-place finish. On the men's side, Sam Whelan broke the school mark in the 300m dash, placing 14th out of 40 runners in 35.11.
Beyond the school records, both squads collected numerous personal bests. For the women, Madison Jackson notched a PR in the 400m run at 1:07.82 In the 500m, A. Washington (1:23.28), Kayla Larsen (1:27.51), and Alexis Doyle (1:29.91) all set new personal marks.
For the men, Nicholas Runfola (35.60) and Joseph Ortiz (43.03) recorded PRs in the 300m dash. Six Dolphins set personal bests in the 500m: Karran Riley (1:07.07), Steven Elcock 1:07.35), Christopher O'Brien (1:09.21), Jude Adinnu (1:15.32), and Chris Vazquez (1:15.50). In the distance events, Peter Galletta led the way with a PR of 9:57.31 followed by Kevin Deyo (10:22.39) and Walter Gavilanes (11:20.00).
CSI returns to action next Friday, December 12, at the Wagner College Shootout, once again at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex.
