All-Time Series: CSI leads 4-2-1
Last Meeting: April 9, 2021 - STAC won 6-0 & 9-6
Players to Watch (CSI): Thomas Marten continues to lead CSi with a .429 batting average, followed closely by
Angel Santiago's .406 mark. Marten leads the unit with four doubles, while Santiago now has a team-best 13 total hits and now has five RBI.
Domenick Castiglione is next on the list with a ,348 average and he and
Thomas Joyce are tied for second on the team with seven RBI. Joyce also leads the unit with five walks. Look for
Nick Metzger to perhaps make a start today. The freshman put up six solid innings on Monday against Bridgeport, and is 0-1 this season with a 9.00 ERA.
Kevin Ryan (0-1, 12.79 ERA), and
Adam Gonzalez (0-0, 13.50 ERA) could also see innings.
Players to Watch (STAC): Sean Lynch played in just one game at catcher yesterday, and still sports the team-lead with a .500 batting average, scoring 9 hits in 18 at-bats. The hits leader is Bryan Donnelly, who has 14, including his first home run of the season yesterday a solo shit that now gives him a ties of the team lead with 11 RBI. Danny Di Marzo also has 11 to go with his .364 average. Look for Alex Mack to potentially make an appearance or start in this game today. He comes in with a 1-0 record and 2.84 ERA. Aaron Dona is hoping to see some innings as well, as he is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA, pitching six innings so far.
News & Notes: Yesterday's games renewed the series that was dormant for almost 21 years. For STAC, it was their first victories ever against CSI, as CSI still owns a 4-2-1 record against them all-time. The previous five meetings came between 1980 and 2000. The series started with a 6-6 tie in the only meeting held at STAC way back in that 1980 meeting, and the last four meetings took place at CSI, the last one in 2000, a 12-6 CSI win. This is obviously the first meeting between the two teams as both members of the East Coast Conference, and the two teams will play another tomorrow, weather-permitting, at STAC's Sparkhill campus. STAC started the season red-hot, scoring four wins at Felician College and then another two at Adelphi to stake a 6-0 record, but have now been idle for 20 days, seeing nine games canceled or postponed in that time. It hasn't prevented them from being recognized, however, as they are ranked No. 3 in the NCBWA East Region Poll and are in the Others Receiving Votes category nationally. Four of STAC's six wins have come by five runs or more. CSI won their first-ever game as an ECC member on Monday, but dropped a contest to Dominican College on Wednesday, so they enter looking to get back in the win column.
