Sparkhill, NY | In the first meeting ever between the two sides, St. Thomas Aquinas College handed the College of Staten Island softball team a pair of losses as part of East Coast College play. The Spartans won game one in a shortened five innings, 13-0, followed by a 10-4 win in game two. STAC raised their overall record to 17-3 overall and 11-1 in the ECC, while CSI fell to 4-12 both overall and in the conference.
GAME ONE
Jailene Santiago and Carissa Della Vecchia combined for a one-hit shutout in the opening game of the set, and STAC scored four in the first and then another nine in the second to do all the damage it needed.
Two Dolphins errors helped the Spartans cause in the opening frame, as three of four runs plated came in unearned, but in the second frame, after CSI stranded a pair of runners in their half, scoring their only hit of the game, the Spartans plated nine runs. The Spartans would record two home runs in the inning, the first a two-run shot from Melissa Sadler, and then a three-run bomb by Vecchia to aid her own cause.

Nicole Rivera came in relief of
Jaclyn Kateridge to pitched 2.1 shutout innings from there, but STAC rode their big lead till the fifth, as the game was called after five innings.
GAME TWO
Despite the game two final, CSI was the team to take the opening lead, plating a run off of STAC starter Paige Toothaker on an
Isabel Gallo single that plated
Jessica Carreon, making it a 1-0 game in the first. STAC, however, made up for it, scoring three runs in their turn of the first against Rivera. Jacqueline Castro got the game-tying hit, scoring Nicolette MacDonald to tie and then, after Sadler stole home to give STAC the lead, Castro came in via error to end the frame, 3-1.
The Spartans continued their assault in the second frame. After holding CSI scoreless, the home team poured in six runs on four hits, again, aided by a pair of CSI errors. Castro delivered a big hit in the inning, plating a pair of runs. After a scoreless third, CSI edged closer with a three-run fourth, as
Claudia Porcaro singled home a run, and later,
Gorret Komuhendo buny singled in
Victoria Whalen.
STAC, however, would hold off the threat, adding a single digit and holding CSI scoreless the rest of the way to help secure the 10-4 win.
