All-Time Series: CSI leads, 5-0
Last Meeting: April 30, 2021 - CSI won, 10-4
Players to Watch (CSI): Leading the way for CSI this season has been freshman
Thomas Marten, who rose his batting average to .347 after last weekend's set with Mercy College. Marten leads CSI with 12 runs scored and is also third on the team with 11 RBI.
Shendi Ulaj had a tremendous week last week, and he is now hitting .320 with a team high seven doubles and 12 RBI. The RBI-leader is former ECC Player of the Week
Thomas Joyce, who has 14 while hitting .291. The CSI hits leader is
Angel Santiago, who is batting .310, adding 10 runs scored. On the hill, look for
Nick Metzger and Salvatore Trancucci to potentially get starts. Metzger is 1-3 with a 7.97 ERA, while Trancucci is 2-1 with a 5.11 ERA, leading the team in both of those categories.
Players to Watch (DYC): Look for Jeremy Glinski to pack a punch at the plate. He is hitting .300 with a team-best 18 hits, of which 10 have gone for extra bases (seven doubles and three triples). He also is the team leader with 11 walks. Alex Dzimian is batting .242, and leads the Saints with 9 RBI, collecting a home run as well. The duo of Glinski and Dzimian have also combined for 22 stolen bases this season, so once they get on base they are always a threat. Dzimian is also one of the team's best pitchers. This season he is 1-4 with a 10.61 ERA on a team-high 28 innings. Nick Jank, through 15 innings of work is the team leader with a 7.80 ERA.
News & Notes: Yesterday, the Dolphins and Saints ushered in a rivalry that had lay dormant for 16 years. In 2005, D'Youville College participated as an Associate member of the CUNY Athletic Conference, and the two teams played four games against each other that year, two in Staten Island and two in Buffalo. CSI won all four meetings by a combined score of 53-6. CSI posted back-to-back shutouts when the two teams met in Staten Island that year (17-0 & 4-0) prior to yesterday. Yesterday, the Saints got off to a 3-0 lead after the game's first three and a half innings, but CSI responded with two in the fourth and six in the fifth to ultimately prevail 10-4. Both teams have struggled against their ECC brethren as they gain their footing in the new conference. In fact, the Saints are still looking to score their first victory in conference, as they have dropped to 0-16 in the ECC this season. They come in having lost 18 straight after starting the season 2-2, splitting doubleheaders against non-conference Hilbert College and Cazenovia College back in early and mid-March. CSI is 4-14, taking two of their three wins in conference two weeks ago at Lincoln University before dropping four-straight against Mercy College last week, including two by just single runs. CSI scored their first home win yesterday since April 5, a 14-13 thriller over Bridgeport.
