Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS SUFFER THIRD STRAIGHT DEFEAT IN LOSS VS CHARGERS, 3-1

ORANGEBURG, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team played their third straight non-conference matchup to open the 2021 season this afternoon against Dominican College, and once again came up short in search of the team's first win by a final score of 3-1.  The win evens the Chargers' record at 2-2 and keeps the Dolphins winless at 0-3.

KEY MOMENTS

The two teams remained scoreless through twenty minutes before the Chargers broke the scoreless tie behind the foot of Maximino Casares Martinez who registered the first of his two goals in the twenty-first minute. Casares Martinez didn't waste much time extending his team's lead to a pair in the second half as he netted his second of the game in the fifty-third minute to make it 2-0. However, CSI would pull to within one in the seventieth minute on Samuel Gonzaga's first goal of the season. This would be as close as the Dolphins would get as Nicholas DiGuglielmo put the game away with a goal for Dominican in the game's final minute.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The Chargers held a distinct advantage across the board on the stat sheet leading in shots 18-4, in shots on goal 10-2, and in corners 8-4.  It was also another busy day in goal for Omer Hamzacebi who recorded another seven saves on the ten shots he faced.

DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME
The Dolphins of the game connected on CSI's lone score with the freshman duo of Dennis Coticelli and Samuel Gonzaga earning their first assist and first goal of the season respectively. The seventieth-minute goal brought the Dolphins to within one and is the second time CSI has found the back of the net this season.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Dolphins will face their first East Coast Conference opponent of the season in their next match as they travel to Dobbs Ferry, NY to take on the Mercy College Mavericks this Saturday at 3 PM.
