Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team played in their first East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup of the season against the Mavericks of Mercy College on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The dolphins lost by a final of, 2-0, pushing them to a, 0-4 start overall and a, 0-1 in the ECC. The Mavericks continued their hot streak at home, now sitting at, 4-1 overall (1-0 ECC).
KEY MOMENTS
On the Men's side, the Dolphins would be down, 1-0, three minutes into the start of the game. It was a goal by Pau Echarri that found the back of the Dolphins net. From then on, the men would play a fantastic game on the defensive side of the ball the entire game. CSI had built momentum after that first goal with multiple opportunities to score, however, none were able to find the back of the Mavericks net in a effort to tie the game. It was a penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute of play by Mercy that ultimately gave them the 2-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
For the Men, it was a different story, as they registered six shots in the first half, however, none where on goal while Mercy tallied 14 of them in all, with eight of those on goal. CSI won the corner kick battle, 6-2, though, they were not able to put one on goal as the Mavericks played a tough defense inside the box throughout the game. The subs for CSI would register four of their six shot attempts, including two by CSI's
Larry Diggs.
Bryant Navarro and
Leandro Angulo would record one shot each as they played the entire 90 minutes of action. All six shots were registered in the first half as Mercy did not allow another shot by CSI in the second half, though, CSI would play great defensively allowing only four shots in the second half, one of which was a late penalty shot, however, it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.
