DOLPHINS BLANKED IN PHYSICAL BATTLE WITH ECC FOE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, 1-0

Staten Island, NY - Taking on East Coast Conference foe the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon the College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team was shut out in a 1-0 defeat. The CSI loss dropped their season mark to 1-6, 0-3 in ECC play. The win for the Firebirds was their fourth-straight and improved their record to 4-4 overall, 3-0 against conference opponents.

KEY MOMENTS

Both teams had several scoring chances in the opening minutes, but none were better than a pair of shots by Brandon Figueroa of CSI in the fifth minute. The first shot was saved before the second was blocked on the rebound denying the Dolphins the game's first goal. Ultimately, UDC registered the only goal of the match when Michel Egbame charged up the sideline and crossed the ball to Vitor Gomes. Gomes redirected it with the body to Imrane Achahi who sent it into the back of the net and gave the Firebirds a 1-0 lead that would stand until the final horn.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The two teams were evenly matched in the box score with the Dolphins leading in shots 7-6 and in shots on goal 5-4. UDC held the advantage in corners 8-7, but it was their ability to convert on one of their numerous scoring chances that made the difference.

DOLPHIN(S) OF THE GAME

Today's Dolphin of the game, Brian Kerilu, was critical in helping CSI win possession in the midfield during his ninety minutes on the pitch. His ability to win the ball for his team helped the Dolphins generate attacking chances and he was also able to navigate through the UDC defense serving as one of the team's primary playmaking threats as well.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Dolphins will play in the second half of another ECC doubleheader when they take on Roberts Wesleyan at Dolphins Soccer Park this Saturday at approximately 2 PM.
