Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Department of Athletics has named Brendan Guzman as its new Head Coach for Women's Soccer. Guzman is the fifth coach in the program's history and takes over for Jackie Bruno, who resigned from the position in early June. He will officially make his sideline debut today against American International College.

"I am very excited to have Brendan join our Dolphin family. Brendan is extremely detailed, and you can just feel his passion for the game if you are anywhere near him," said Director of Athletics T.J. Tibbs. "Brendan's personality is a tremendous fit for our student-athletes, both on his team and in other programs. His impact will be felt throughout our program, and he is more than ready for the challenges in front of him, both known and unknown. I am looking forward to his impact during a unique time in our program."

A former high school standout from Clifton, N.J., and a top-level collegiate athlete at Montclair State University, Guzman will be building on an abridged coaching career that includes a stop at New Jersey City University and a current role as the Technical Director of U13-U15 at Asphalt Green Soccer Club in New York City. The appointment at the College of Staten Island is his first collegiate head coaching position.

"I am super-excited to get started.CSI is a diamond in the rough. This program is a great fit for me and is super close to home as I am a New Jersey native," Guzman said. "For the last 6-7 years I have been cataloging high-end experiences being at many high-end New York grassroots soccer clubs," Guzman went on to say. "My short-term goal is to establish a culture and having the ladies trust me. Long-term is getting the best players to stay on Staten Island, and the ability to get players from outside of New York. This season we will be putting the puzzle pieces together following COVID."

Guzman was an NJAC standout defender at Montclair State University receiving a B.S. in Physical Education and Health. While at Montclair State University, he accumulated 85 appearances, four NCAA tournament appearances, two NJAC Championships, an Elite 8 finish, and 14 points as a defender.

The CSI Women's Soccer team is coming off of a 6-7-1 campaign in 2019, their first as a provisional NCAA Division II member. The program had tremendous success within the CUNYAC prior to ECC entry which was supposed to occur fully in 2020, but was canceled due to the pandemic. CSI had won four-straight CUNYAC Championships from 2015-18 and had not lost a conference game in the regular season since 2016.
