The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association officially announced the 2024-25 recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards earlier today. A program now in its 18th year, the Academic Achievement Award recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level in NCAA sponsored sports.
This year's class was a historic one for the D2 ADA as more than 20,000 student-athletes were recognized with the honor for the first time in the history of the program. Nearly 23,000 student-athletes from a record 202 institutions were recognized including 660 from the ECC. Among those 660 were 35 Dolphins, all of whom have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
To qualify for a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award a student-athlete must first have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. They also must have a minimum of two years attended an an NCAA Division II institution. Finally, they must be an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team during the most recent academic year.
"Since its inception, this program has been dedicated to celebrating the exceptional student-athletes who define excellence across our Division II landscape," said Traci Murphy, vice president for athletics at Daemen University and current D2 ADA President. "This year, we are thrilled to recognize a record number of deserving individuals, reflecting the unprecedented dedication within our division - not only in athletics, but in the classroom as well. This year's record-breaking submissions for both individuals and schools serve as a testament to the Division II way. Thanks to the administrators that nominated these outstanding individuals, and much-deserved congratulations to our 22,000-plus recipients."
