Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS SCORE FOUR TIMES IN CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER SAINTS, 4-1

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team made it back-to-back victories in conference play this afternoon as they defeated the Saints of D'Youville University by a final score of 4-1.  For the Dolphins, the four-goal performance doubled their best scoring effort of the season and improved their record to 3-7 overall, 2-1 against the East Coast Conference.  The loss for the Saints drops their record to 1-9 and 0-5 in conference play.

The first half of the match was a back-and-forth, evenly matched, and fast-paced affair as the two sides combined for three goals during the first 45 minutes.  First, Steven Branco registered his first goal of the season off of a nice move to beat his marker followed by a shot inside of the near post.  Fourteen minutes later the Saints responded with the equalizer on their only shot of the half to level the score at 1-1.  With less than fifteen minutes to play before the break, the Dolphins would score again on a Shane Siegel goal.  The assist went to Dennis Coticelli who crossed the ball through traffic before it ultimately found the foot of the goal scorer Siegel.

The second half initially saw the pace of the game slow down, but the Dolphins would break it open in the eighty-fourth minute on Daniel Angulo's third goal of the season, a powerful top-shelf strike into the upper right-hand corner of the net.  With the Dolphins firmly in control, they did not let up until the final horn sounded, and Angulo would add another point to an already impressive stat line.  In the closing seconds, the Dolphins took possession in the midfield without any Saints between the midfield stripe and the D'Youville goal.  Angulo, who possessed the ball, found a wide-open Yousef Dardier making a run down the center of the pitch, and Dardeir added his first goal of the season with seven seconds remaining the earn the Dolphins a 4-1 win.

Angulo takes sole possession of the team lead in points and goals following his standout performance.  Siegel now has three points following his first-half goal and Branco gets into the point column for the first time this season with his goal.  Coticelli's assist was also his first, and despite not tallying a point, several other Dolphins were key in yet another complete effort for the team.  Leandro Angulo and Steven Flores made several strong tackles at the defensive end of the pitch, and along with Angulo, Mohammedou Sow was a dominant presence in the midfield.  Lastly, Amari Thompson allowed two goals or fewer in net for the Dolphins for the fifth time in five CSI home games this year.

Before the men join the women on the road next Saturday at Roberts Wesleyan, they will play another non-conference match this Wednesday at 7 PM at Chestnut Hill.
