CAMPOS GAME-WINNER PROPELS DOLPHINS TO VICTORY IN BAYONNE BRIDGE CUP

Secaucus, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team picked up their first road win of the season this afternoon as they defeated Alliance University, 2-1.  The matchup, which has become known as the Bayonne Bridge Cup, was decided on a game-winning goal by Javier Campos with just under ten minutes remaining in the match.  With the win, the Dolphins improve to 4-9.  The loss drops the Warriors to 3-7-3.

The Dolphins opened the scoring early on the third shot of the game less than five minutes into the first half.  Following a Warriors turnover just outside of the box, Henry Carino turned a pass interception into an assist when he found Brendan Maguire for the opening score.  For Maguire, the goal was his second of the season, and the assist was Carino's first.  Alliance would respond by seizing control of the game and attempting the next nine shots.  The fifth of those nine attempts would be the equalizer, and it came on a Lucas Fiuza penalty kick immediately following the start of the twenty-sixth minute.  Following their goal, the Dolphins would only attempt one more shot through the next forty minutes, and neither team would attempt a shot during the final thirteen minutes before halftime.

With the score tied at one following the intermission, the Warriors maintained a distinct advantage in shots and in time of possession throughout most of the second half.  After holding an 11-2 advantage in shots during the first forty-five minutes, Alliance took eight of the first ten shots attempted in the second half.  However, it was the eleventh shot of the half that proved to be the deciding goal.  With just under ten minutes remaining, Javier Campos sent a long strike off of the far post and in to give the Dolphins a late 2-1 lead.  The Warriors would test Dolphins goalkeeper Amari Thompson just once the rest of the way as CSI would hold on for the one-goal victory.

It was a seven-save effort for Thompson in net during a game that saw Alliance attempt 21 total shots.  Despite attempting just five shots, only two of which were on goal, the Dolphins made the absolute most of their chances to come away with the win.  Maguire's goal was not only his second of the season but was also the third time he has registered a point in the team's last five games.  Carino's assist got him into the points column for the first time and the goal for Campos was his first as a Dolphin.  For Alliance, Fiuza's goal was his first of the season and Miguel Andrade attempted a season-high seven shots.  Also tying a season-high was Matteo Guerrini who attempted five shots for the third straight game.
